BEREA, OH — Rudolph David Schleif, 72, of Berea Ohio passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2020. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 18, 1948. He was the son of Rudolph Heinrich Schleif and Cecilia (Macejko) Schleif.
He is survived by his son, daughter in-law and grandson Evan, Erica and Whelan Schleif along with his sisters and their husbands Linda & Greg Durica and Ronnie & Eddie Hammer-Huber. He was loved by his many nieces and nephews and their children, his many cousins, his ex-wife Susan Doheny and her family.
He worked at Suntreader Studio in Sharon, VT, then shifted to the building trades. He ran his own company, Expansion & Design out of Arlington, MA. He retired to Berea Ohio where he restored furniture and read voraciously. Rudy had a great sense of humor, and a deep reservoir of historical and political knowledge. One of his fondest work memories was his early years in SF, CA as staff at Dr. David Smith’s Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinic. He enjoyed a deep connection to nature, skiing, biking, swimming and snorkeling.
A service and Celebration of Life will be held late spring/summer in Cleveland and in Vermont for family and friends. Dates to be determined.
