HANOVER, NH — Eva E. (Monroe) Decato, 91, passed away peacefully after a long struggle with dementia, at Wheelock Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, NH on September 23, 2020. Eva was a lifelong resident of Canaan, NH, and married the late Clarence E. Decato in April 1948. Early in her career she was a seamstress with Carter Clothing in Lebanon, NH; followed by Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, NH, for many years; and semi-retired at Clark Hill Sugary in Canaan, NH. She and her husband enjoyed travel throughout the Northeast and eastern Canada. Eva was an avid reader, enjoying weekly visits to Canaan Public Library. Eva and Clarence, raised sheep early in their married life, and also were the owners of Beaver Meadow Christmas Tree Farm for many years. Eva grew large gardens and spent many hours preserving the harvest, kept a quiet life, and enjoyed cat companions. For many years Eva was an active member, and children’s Bible class teacher at Upper Valley Church of Christ in Quechee, VT, until she became sole caregiver to her husband Clarence. A 90th birthday celebration was held by family, for Eva, in August 2019.

Eva leaves a son, Barry (Mary) Decato of Canaan; two daughters, Sharon (Roy) Weaver and Sarah (Brian) Bisbee of Canaan; 4 grandchildren, Heather (Lewis) Weaver Ryan of Lebanon, NH, Stephen (Riley) Bisbee, Joshua Bisbee, and James Bisbee all of Canaan; one great grandchild, Caitlyn Ryan of Lebanon, NH; a brother, Robert Monroe of Canaan; a sister, Nancy LaCasse of Lempster, NH; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in 2014, and three sisters: Phyllis Barrows, Gloria George, and Natalie Webster.

A private graveside service will be held later in October at Canaan Street cemetery in Canaan, with Randy Gardner, from Upper Valley Church of Christ, officiating. In lieu of flowers please donate, in her name, to Mascoma Senior Center or Canaan Public library, both in Canaan.

Due to COVID-19 it is required that all attending wear a mask and practice social distancing.
