HARTLAND, VT — Daniel (Dan) O’Neil, 55, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at the home that he shared with his girlfriend, Carol Lycett, in Hartland, Vermont.
Dan was born June 19, 1964, in Springfield, Vermont, to John O’Neil and Genevieve (Matthews) O’Neil. He shared one son, Spencer O’Neil, with his former wife MaryBeth Murchie LeFevre. After graduating from Springfield High School, he worked for Cepco Inc., and then as a machinist at Hypertherm, and Latva Machine.
Dan loved to spend time with his son Spencer and they were very close, sharing a love of music, wolf rescues, as well as trout and salmon fishing. Dan was very involved in his music, making his own guitar and writing and performing his own music with many friends and fellow musicians as well as at open mic events. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His kindness and easygoing nature were appreciated by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Spencer O’Neil; his mother, Genevieve Lowell and her husband Dick; his father John O’Neil; brother, Rodney O’Neil and his girlfriend Jodi Merlin; and sister Brenda Hodgeman and her husband Dan. In addition, he is survived by his nephew, Randy O’Neil; and his nieces Gen Hodgeman, Jackie Corliss and Jessica Nichols.
A jam session and potluck celebration of Dan’s life will be held at the VFW in Springfield, Vermont, on Sunday, November 3 at 11:30 AM.
