HANOVER, NH — Ann Hillman, 86, died on August 18, 2019 at Kendal of Hanover surrounded by her family.

Ann was born on February 15, 1933 in Bronxville, New York to Francis William and Dorothy Ann (Galloway) Phillips. She grew up in Scarsdale, NY and graduated from the Ursuline School in 1950 and Mt. Holyoke College in 1954 where she graduated magna cum laude with a BA in English.

On weekends visiting Dartmouth College and voted as a member of the Queen’s Court for Winter Carnival, she met and married Herbert John Hillman, Jr on January 15, 1955.

She and Herb moved from Montclair, New Jersey to Stowe, Vermont in 1963 where they owned and operated the Golden Eagle Resort. Ann was devoted to her family as a wonderful mother and grandmother and was a living force in their lives by her loving caretaking. She was an active and inspirational member of the community. Her legacy was as a wife, mother, writer, nurse and performer.

She loved music, theater and was a faithful Roman Catholic. She played piano, sang solo and in church choruses, and had lead roles in Stowe Theater Guild and Lamoille County Players community theater. She greatly enjoyed tennis and for many years spent part of the winter in Delray Beach, Florida. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Alaska and cruises to the Caribbean, Panama Canal, and South Pacific.

In addition to her husband, Ann is survived by her four children Carol Van Dyke (Neil) of Stowe, Vermont, Barbara Laporte (Stefan) of Delray Beach, Florida, Mary Moen (Philip) of Riverside, Rhode Island, James Hillman (Diane) of Calabasas, California. She was so proud of her 12 grandchildren: Alex Laporte, Sarah Van Dyke Hochtl, Erika Moen, Geoffrey Herbert Laporte, Forrest Van Dyke, Brittney Moen Jackson, Lillian Van Dyke, Jenna Moen, Haley Moen, Timothy Hillman, Erik Hillman and Nicole Hillman; and her 6 great grandchildren: Brielle and Eli Jackson, Mattias and Nikolas Hochtl, Alexander Laporte Jr, and Sanna Christensen. She is also survived by her younger sister, Virginia Phillips, and her nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the incredible staff at Kendal for helping Herb take such good care of Ann as she suffered Alzheimer’s in the last years of her life.

Funeral services will be at 2PM on Friday, August 23rd at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe. A reception will follow at the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant at the Golden Eagle Resort.
