HARTFORD โ Residents may be able to enjoy a meal from a food truck at several parks around Hartford this summer, thanks to a new program.
The town is seeking applications from mobile food vendors interested in setting up shop at Kilowatt Park, Lyman Point Park, the Maxfield Outdoor Sports Complex, Quechee Green Park and Watson Memorial Park throughout the summer, according to an announcement.
The season runs from May through the end of October. Vendors can pay $25 for a daily permit, $100 for a week or $750 for the entire summer.
“We have a lot of activities, a lot of things going on at our public parks,” Parks and Recreation Director Scott Hausler said in an interview. “We thought it would provide another service to people that use the space.”
Some of the locations, such as Lyman Point Park next to town hall and the Maxfield complex, are particularly visible and busy locations, so Hausler said he hopes that will draw some interest.
The program is also a source of easy revenue for the department. There is “really no cost” to the town since vendors will provide their own utilities and trash management, he said.
As of Monday, the Parks and Recreation Department had received some inquiries from vendors about the new program but no applications, Hausler said.
