Real costs of casinos

I am struck by the article in today’s paper about the financial benefits of casinos in NH.
the huge cost of gambling addiction is not even mentioned.

Gambling is highly and quickly addictive, as i learned in the only psychology course i ever took.

There is also the irony that the Lebanon casino is located adjacent to the wonderful LISTEN store. LISTEN lost money to the gambling addiction and embezzlement of a former manager. Sure it was mostly covered by insurance, but we eventually pay those premiums.

The casinos are couched as ‘charitable’ but that is a an insulting cover for a highly profitable industry. And i would bet the profits even go mostly out of state.
