Plainfield’s silent majority deserves a voice

On March 14, Plainfield faces a choice: Do we continue with a “Minority-Rule” system, or do we embrace a modern democracy that includes everyone?

Currently, about 250 people decide the tax burden for our town of 2,500. While some call this “tradition,” the reality is that 90% of our neighbors—working parents, seniors with mobility issues, and commuters—are effectively locked out of the process. In 2026, no one should have to choose between their job and their right to vote on a multi-million dollar budget.

We pay soaring “Private School” KUA prices at Plainfield Elementary. Our town created a $130,000+ position last year without a public job posting or a specific vote. When spending is this high and transparency is this low, we need more voters at the ballot box, not fewer.
Voting YES for SB2 doesn’t end the debate; it simply moves the final decision to a secret ballot where every registered voter has access. It’s time to trade nostalgia for accountability.

I urge the “Silent 2,250” to show up on March 14th. Let’s make our government reflect our whole community, not just a select few.
