JAFFREY, N.H.ย โ€” N.H. Fish and Game conservation officers rescued three people in Monadnock State Park over the weekend as cold weather and snow made trails more dangerous, according to news releases from that agency.

On Saturday, officers learned of an injured hiker on the White Cross Trail about a mile from the trailhead, a release issued Monday says. Ericka Breedon, 41, of Rhode Island, had suffered a lower-leg injury while coming down the trail, the release says. Breedon’s hiking partner called 911, and a Monadnock State Park mountain patrol ranger was able to reach the pair and splint the injured ankle, Fish and Game said.

A rescue crew, including conservation officers, state park employees, Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team volunteers, and other hikers, carried Breedon off the mountain in a litter, according to the release.

On Sunday afternoon, N.H. State Police dispatch got a call about two hikers lost in Monadnock State Park who had called 911 for help.

The hikers, Devin Machado, 23, and Alexandra Castro, 21, both of Somerset, Mass., were off trail south of the Red Spot Trail, about 1,000 feet below the summit, Fish and Game said in a news release issued Monday.

A conservation officer remotely guided the pair back to the trail, but with only cellphone lights and insufficient clothing for the weather, they needed help to get off the mountain, according to the agency.

Officers brought the hikers headlamps, warm clothes and other supplies and hiked down to park headquarters with them, the release says.
