CLAREMONT — A nonprofit organization that supports survivors of domestic violence in Sullivan County has changed its name.

Turning Points Network, which has offices in Claremont and Newport, will now be known as The Center for Safer Communities, according to a news release.

The name change reflects the organization’s mission to assist survivors of stalking and sex trafficking, along with its work to reduce violence through education and other outreach efforts.

“We are here not only to support those impacted by violence and abuse, but to prevent violence from taking root by working with youth, families, and partners across Sullivan County to build safety, respect, and belonging for everyone,” executive director Pascale N. Graham said in the release.

The organization was founded in the late 1970s as the Women’s Supportive Services and changed its name to Turning Points Network in 2007. It operates a 24/7 crisis line and an emergency shelter, in addition to providing education programs at area schools, among other services.
