CONCORD — A federal grand jury indicted a 45-year-old Claremont man last week on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with an alleged shootout in Claremont in April 2025.
Gerald Hayden “was involved in a shootout with another individual during a drug dispute in Claremont, N.H., in April of 2025,” the United States Attorney’s Office of New Hampshire alleged in a Tuesday news release.
State court records show that Hayden was convicted on felony drug possession charges in 2008 and 2015.
As a convicted felon, Hayden was prohibited from possessing firearms.
The charge of felon in possession of a firearm carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years, a fine of up to $250,000 and not more than three years of supervised release.
Phone and email efforts to reach the prosecutors in the case, Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Shannon and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Marin, were not immediately successful on Wednesday.
The Claremont and Manchester Police Departments assisted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in its investigation into Hayden.
A voicemail left for Claremont Police Chief Brent Wilmot was not immediately returned on Wednesday.
