FAIR HAVEN, Vt. — A potent offensive attack was more than enough for the Windsor High softball team, which routed host Fair Haven, 17-5, in six innings on Friday afternoon.

“The whole lineup, 1-9, did their job and contributed to the win,” Windsor coach Heather Stearns said. “I’m very happy with how aggressive we are this year. We swung the bats very aggressively, put the ball in play and made them make plays defensively.”

Adi Prior led the way for the Yellowjackets with two singles and a double. Jenna Hood had a double and a single. Paige Kleefisch had a pair of base hits. Windsor collected 11 hits as a team.

Peyton Richardson started in the circle for the Jacks, allowing just four hits in a complete game win. Richardson struck out seven.

The D-III Yellowjackets opened the season with a loss at D-I Mount Anthony. This is now two straight wins where Windsor has totaled 42 runs to improve to 2-1 on the young season. Next up is a visit from Springfield on Tuesday.

Tanner Drury reached base four times, on two hits and two walks, and scored twice. Blake Southworth tripled twice and scored three times. Both teams are in action on Monday when Mascoma will host Stevens and Hanover hosts Fall Mountain.

Springfield 22, Hartford 1 (5)

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The young Hurricanes (0-1) were no match for the Cosmos.

“We have a young pitching staff this year and six freshmen on the varsity team. This group has learned a lot in a short amount of time, and they continue to show significant improvement,” first-year Hartford coach Danielle Tenney said.

Becca Keelty was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases for the Canes. Logan Evans added a pair of hits and also stole two bases. Evans was the starting pitcher and struck out three.

Boys TennisBedford 8, Hanover 1

BEDFORD, N.H. — The Marauders (2-2) picked up a win in the top doubles match, the first blemish in an otherwise perfect record for Bedford (4-0) this season.

Evan Yang and Alex Rockmore picked up the win, 8-6 over Nick Bayer and Bohdan Higley of Bedford. Rockmore had the best singles performance, falling 8-6 at the No. 2 spot.

“Bedford played even better than they did on Monday (a 9-0 win at Hanover). The key to their game was consistency. We battled hard, but were not able to match their consistency. That being said, we played a tremendous match today,” Hanover coach Jarrod Shaheen said.

The Marauders visit Derryfield on Monday.
