CANAAN — Residents rejected a proposed zoning ordinance that would dictate what types of buildings are allowed in the Canaan Historic District along part of Canaan Street in Town Meeting voting on Tuesday. The measure, which was backed by the Planning Board and opposed by the Selectboard, was defeated 327-204.
Dan Collins, with 244 votes, defeated Selectboard member Al Posnanski (208) along with Ami Gammell (51) and Derek Herro (30) in a four-way race for a three-year term.
Voters approved a $4.13 million municipal budget on a 376-167 vote.
A $1.2 million bond to upgrade the town’s water system, which includes water main replacements from Canaan Street Lake to the water treatment plant, also sailed through, 442-95.
And voters approved the sale of the old Cozy Corner parcel on Route 4, 451-99.
