HARRISBURG, PA — Judith Brown Schimmel formally of Lebanon, NH, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2020 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was born to the late John and Lucille Brown on September 27, 1946 in Lebanon, NH.

Judith attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1964. Judith went on to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs NY graduating in 1968.

Judy continued to further her education attending the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. While in law school Judith was an editor and contributor to the University’s law review.

Judith passed the Pennsylvania Bar exam in 1971, and spent a very short career in the private sector before gaining employment with the Commonwealth of PA. While with the Commonwealth, Judith would spend much of her career in its Consumer Protection Bureau in several cities throughout the state.

On July 21, 1976 Judith married her late husband George F Schimmel, and became stepmother to his children Brian, Scott, and Georganne.. Judith and George welcomed their first and only child together, Jennifer, in 1979.

In 1982 Judith began her long career at the City of Harrisburg’s Law Bureau. Professionally Judith is most known for being the City Solicitor under the Reed Administration, a position she held until her retirement in 2003.

Judith was preceded in death by husband, George F Schimmel; sister, Mary Rauner; and stepson Scott Schimmel. She is survived by daughter Jennifer Burkholder (David Leppo) of Elizabethtown; stepdaughter Georganne Alleman of Harrisburg, stepson Brian (Sharon) Schimmel of Allentown, daughter in law Charlene Schimmel of Harrisburg, sisters Kathleen Burke of MD and Susan (Henry) Campbell of NC; brother Matthew (Sharon) Brown of NH; brother in law Richard Rauner of Allentown; cousin Greg (Susan) Elliott of RI; grandchildren Casi Alleman, of Harrisburg; Jason (Pam) Schimmel of Allentown; Elisa Nicole Alleman of York; Christopher (Fritzie) Schimmel of Allentown; Kimberly (Jon) Price of NC; Misty Schimmel of Allentown; Trey Schimmel of Harrisburg; Zachary Burkholder of Elizabethtown, Julianna Burkholder of Elizabethtown, and Owen Leppo of Elizabethtown; along with 4 great grandchildren.

Judith was laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery Harrisburg, PA on August 29th and a private celebration of life will be held on September. 26.
