NORWICH, VT — John E. Snyder, Jr. (Jack) died August 27, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born January 23, 1941 to John E. Snyder, Sr. and Dorothy (Watson) Snyder in Easton, PA. Jack grew up in Phillipsburg, NJ, attending Phillipsburg High School. After high school he enlisted in the Coast Guard and proudly served for 4 years.
Jack loved life. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends. In recent years he lived in White River Junction, VT. Not being a guy who could sit around, he worked at Price Chopper and relished in the opportunity to see so many familiar faces. Jack also loved spending time at the Bugbee Sr. Center and getting to know so many people in the community.
In years prior, Jack was well known for his musical talent. He was the church organist at the Methodist Church in Enfield and Canaan over a 40+ year timeframe. He played the organ for thousands of local area high school graduates. And of course, he loved playing his Calliope at parades and fairs. Jack worked until retirement as an electrician for Lonchamps and Interstate Electric. He loved spending endless summer days at camp at Silver Lake. Jack was a great prankster and joker. He loved nothing more than a good ribbing. He had a great smile, great handlebar mustache, and a fabulous sense of humor.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Nancy Bailey Snyder. Jack is survived by his children, John E. Snyder, III of Massachusetts and Jennifer Snyder Fogg and her husband, Jeff, of Norwich, VT; sister, Sharon (Snyder) Pevorus and husband, Charles of Phillipsburg, NJ; cousin, Deborah Stefano and husband, Joseph of Phillipsburg, NJ; brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Bailey and Joan of Etna, NH; brother-in-law, William (Bill) Bailey and wife, Carol of Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, as well as his granddogs, LuLu and Phoebe.
In lieu of flowers, Jack has requested that contributions be made to Nancy Bailey Snyder’s Semester at Sea 1996 Scholarship Fund at Plymouth State University, MSC 50, 17 High Street, Plymouth, NH 03264.
A graveside service will be held for all to attend at Hillside Cemetery in Norwich, VT at 12:00 P.M. noon on Thursday, September 3, 2020.
