QUECHEE, VT — Louis Anthony Giordano of Quechee, Vermont, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the age of 83 while biking with friends along a scenic tree-lined trail in Stowe, Vermont, an activity in which he took great pleasure. Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey to Nicholas and Ann (Forlenza) Giordano, Louis graduated from M.I.T. in 1958 with an Engineering degree. He is preceded in death by his late wife and best friend, Maywood Nisbet Giordano and his youngest son, Steven Nicholas Giordano.
Louis is survived by his younger sister Annette Giordano of Wrentham, MA, his children Bobby Giordano and wife Judy Giordano of Missoula, Montana; Julie Giordano of Bangkok, Thailand; Laurie Toolin and husband Brian Homsi of Franklin, Massachusetts; grandchildren Hailey and Brendan Toolin of Franklin, Massachusetts; Rylan and Ashtyn Giordano of Richardson, Texas, and many extended family and friends.
Louis’s curiosity, insatiable thirst for knowledge, zest for life and knack for storytelling enabled him to connect with people in every walk of life. He had a way of capturing people’s attention as soon as he spoke. He not only maintained lifelong friendships but also had the ability to befriend complete strangers. His enjoyment of life knew no bounds and he had endless interests including planning for new adventures, traveling, dancing, watching the Patriots, driving through majestic scenery, hiking, bicycling, walking, picnics and camping, listening to music, playing Bridge, watching his favorite movies (all-time favorite being Mamma Mia), spending time with family and friends, and sharing his famous Lasagna and other newfound recipes. He took great joy in his heritage, loved learning new things, exploring new territory and telling stories of his experiences and adventures.
He had the ability to look on the positive side of even the most challenging situation and was often heard saying his favorite phrase “Make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.” Louis fully lived the “journey” that took him to whichever destination he had in mind. His introspection, laughter, enthusiasm, advice and epiphanies on life will be greatly missed, although they will live on in each and every one of us who had the pleasure to know and love him.
Due to the virus, a Celebration of Louis’s Life is currently being planned for a later date in Quechee, Vermont. More details to come shortly.
Louis’s love of biking took him on many adventures. He had planned to spend August in Montana helping to build bicycles at Free Cycles, an organization he strongly supported that his oldest son Bobby started in 1996 that is dedicated to creating sustainable transportation. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made in Louis’s honor to Free Cycles by going to FreeCycles.org and clicking the “Donation” button or by mailing a donation to Free Cycles, 732 S. 1st St. West, Missoula, MT 59801
