CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — Andrew Miller and Claire Thomas produced a Big Green sweep of giant slalom racing at Sugarloaf, a development that left Dartmouth in second place through the first day of the Colby Carnival on Friday.
Thomas made up a nearly half-second deficit to Vermont’s Marina Vilanova on her second run to lead a 1-2 Big Green finish in the women’s race.
Thomas won in a two-run time of 2 minutes, 2.38 seconds, and teeamate Patrick Mangan (2:02.64) was right behind.Miller completed the double (1:59.32) by edging UVM’s Joachim Jagge Lindstoel (1:59.52). Kipling Weisel (2:00.32) and Drew Duffy (2:00.65) finished 6-7 for the Big Green.
On the Quarry Road trails in nearby Waterville, Dartmouth’s Katharine Ogden (13:45.9) earned another podium finish by taking second place in the women’s 5K skate.
Mara McCollor was seventh and Molly Gellert ninth for the Big Green, whose best finish in the men’s 10K came from a 13th-place Walker Bean.
UVM holds a 450-434 lead on Dartmouth entering Saturday’s final competition day.
PRINCETON, N.J. — The Tigers (8-8, 3-0) extended the Big Green’s Ivy League losing streak to 11 games with a strong second half on the defensive end of the floor.
Princeton held Dartmouth (7-11, 0-3) to just 17 points over the final 20 minutes of play and limited the Big Green to just 36.5% shooting from the floor. Trevon Ary-Turner led Dartmouth with 11 points, and Chris Knight followed with 10.
The Big Green visit Penn on Saturday.
TROY, N.Y. — A three-goal explosion in the span of 91 second-period seconds powered the Engineers (11-12-2, 8-7-1) to an ECAC Hockey rout of the Big Green (10-7-4, 7-5-2) at Houston Field House.
Seven different Rensselaer skaters hit the back of the net behind Dartmouth netminders Justin Ferguson and Adrian Clark. Quin Foreman answered a first-period conversion from RPI’s Ture Linden, but Todd Burgess, Patrick Polino and Tristan Ashbrook scored back-to-back-to-back midway through the middle stanza to decide the game.
Dartmouth visits Union on Saturday night.
ALLSTON, Mass. — The Big Green (5-14-3, 2-11-3) put 33 shots on the Harvard net but couldn’t get any past netminder Becky Dutton in an ECAC Hockey loss to the 10th-ranked Crimson (12-8-1, 11-4-1).
Anne Bloomer brackets two goals around second-period strikes from Maryna Macdonald and Becca Gilmore — the latter shorthanded — to account for Harvard’s offense. The Big Green failed to convert on five power-play opportunities.
Goalie Hannah Humphreys recorded 30 saves for Dartmouth, which has dropped seven straight.
The Big Green visits UNH in its final nonconference game on Tuesday.
HANOVER — The Big Green blanked the Owls to start the weekend off on the right foot. Dartmouth (4-0) started off by sweeping all three doubles matches. The Big Green then proceeded to take all six singles contests in straight sets, let by a 6-3, 7-6 (4) verdict for Charlie Broom at No. 1.
Dartmouth plays a pair of matches on Saturday, against Boston University at 11 a.m. and Bryant at 4.
