HARTFORD โ€” Police cited a New Hampshire man for DUI after they say he caused a crash on I-89 in Hartford that resulted in a FedEx driver’s death on Thursday evening.

Andrew Pott, 35, of Burke, Vt., was pronounced dead at the scene after police say the truck he was driving was hit by a BMW 750i driven by Gabriel Vestal, 19, of Rochester, N.H., at about 8:15 p.m., according to a news release from Vermont State Police.

Vestal received minor injuries in the crash โ€” which occurred while the road conditions were clear and dry โ€” and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

The FedEx truck was totaled, while the BMW had rear-end damage.

After noticing signs of impairment while speaking with Vestal and further investigation, police cited him for operating under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court Windsor Criminal Division to answer to the charge of DUI on June 2 at 8:30 a.m.

I-89 South between exits 2 and 1, the Sharon and Quechee exits, was closed for nearly eight hours following the crash. It reopened about 4 a.m. Friday.

In addition to Vermont State Police, VSP Crash Reconstruction, Hartford Police Department, Hartford Fire Department, Vermont DMV, Vermont Agency of Transportation, Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, Lyndon (Vt.) Police Department, Lebanon Police Department, Stockwell’s Garage and Duprey’s Towing provided assistance on the scene.
