Heather Harlow
Heather Harlow

Fairlee, Vt. — Heather Lynn Harlow died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018. Actually, I can’t really say died because her heart and soul moves on. Her body gave up, Heather did not.

Her daughter, Ailyn told me that this is not fair! I tend to agree with her, as do her family and friends. And oh what a group of family and friends she has. Incredible!! Some rather awesome medical professionals in that group as well (they know who they are).

To witness what Heather went through is to say the least, heartbreaking & soul crushing! Everyone deals with adversity and death in their lives, but this was of course personal. There was some incredible inspiration there as well, which will soften this period of grieving a bit.

No parent should ever lose a child, and no six year old should ever witness a parent’s suffering.

Heather survived the death of her daughter, Sarah. As far as I know, she did it with incredible dignity. So I guess we should all follow her example. Hopefully we can do it as well as she did. Ailyn watched her mom fight for five years; she is my hero.

Her family, her friends, Ailyn and I will miss her more than we can comprehend, but we will get through it as one big family.

Because, as Heather said so simply and eloquently, “What else is there?”

There will be a gathering of friends and family at Westshire Elementary School in West Fairlee, Vt. on Oct. 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. In honor of Heather’s love of baking, please bring a dozen of your favorite cookies to share. Don’t forget to wear something purple!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pedi Hematology/Oncology. Please send them to: Office of Development and Alumni Relations, D-H/Geisel Office of Development, 1 Medical Center Drive, HB 7070, Lebanon, NH 03766

God bless.
