Also surviving Charlie are his brother, W. Bruce MacKenzie of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; sister, Dorothy Gallien of Rock Hill, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews. His sister, Mary Nutbrown, predeceased him.
After graduating with the Class of 1946 from Lebanon High School, Charlie went on to earn a BS in Chemistry from the University of New Hampshire. He spent the next three decades working as a research chemist at the Texaco Research Center in Beacon, N.Y. During this time he resided in Fishkill, N.Y. where he made many lifelong friends and raised his family.
Charlie proudly served in the Army, beginning with ROTC at UNH. He retired after 28 years with the Army Reserves, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Charlie and his family vacationed for many years on Cape Cod. After retiring from Texaco, he and Rosemarie moved to the Cape and settled in East Sandwich in 1990. He often stated living on the Cape was like being on a permanent vacation, although they still found time to travel extensively.
While at home he often enjoyed a good cribbage game, golfing, boating, fishing, curious tinkering, and entertaining. The Lobstah’ x ritual was something to behold.
Charlie’s smile, humor, kindness, generosity, and fun-loving personality have been a joy for his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
