The Big Green grabbed a 6-5 win from the Crimson in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday at O’Donnell Field, but Harvard bounced back with an 11-3 nightcap win for a split. While the early loss eliminated the Crimson from ILCS consideration, the game two defeat kept Dartmouth (12-7-1 league, 17-21-1 overall) from securing the second spot in next weekend’s league title set.
Dartmouth must win today’s regular-season finale over Harvard (11-9, 21-20) to secure a date at Yale this weekend in the ILCS. Otherwise, the bid goes to Columbia (13-8, 18-26).
Big Green junior Sean Sullivan used his legs to score the winning run in the seventh inning of the opener. In a 5-5 game, the second baseman rapped a single back through the box to lead off the inning, then stole second base. After an out, Sullivan scampered to third on another grounder and, two pitches later, scored on a wild pitch from Harvard reliever Buddy Hayward.
A two-out walk in the bottom half led to sophomore Austen Michel trotting in from the bullpen to preserve the one-run lead. He recorded the third out on the eighth pitch of the at-bat on a foul fly to right, then surrendered just a one-out single in the ninth the rest of the way to secure his league-leading seventh save of the year.
The Big Green rallied from a 4-2 deficit with a three-run fourth on a Michael Calamari RBI single and a Harvard throwing error that plated two more Dartmouth runs. Jake Allen’s first homer of the season for Harvard locked the game one last time a half-inning later.
Sophomore Michael Parsons (2-2) earned the win with 1⅔ innings of scoreless relief, while junior starter Cole O’Connor surrendered five runs on eight hits in five innings to go with five strikeouts.
Dartmouth built a 2-0 lead in the nightcap on a Blake Crossing RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth and a Matt Feinstein RBI single in the fifth. Harvard then jumped on Dartmouth senior pitcher Jack Fossand for three-run rallies in the home fifth and sixth, eventually building a 6-3 lead from which the Big Green wouldn’t recover.
The decisive final game of the series and season starts today at 1 p.m. Senior Clay Chatham (2-4, 5.03 earned-run average) will start on the mound for Dartmouth.
Bohrer Named All-Ivy

Sitting in the No. 8 seat, Bohrer was part of a Big Green first varsity that finished third in its heat race before claiming sixth in the grand final. The crew included Zoe Dineen, who made the all-Ivy second team. Dartmouth rowed a time of 6 minutes, 52.16 seconds, a race won by Princeton in 6:37.17.
The Big Green’s second varsity (sixth), third varsity (third), 4A (fourth) and 4B (sixth) also qualified for their respective grand finals.
Wallin, SCSU Win New England Title

NCAA Division II SCSU scored 113.5 points over the two-day meet, easily outdistancing Massachusetts (71) and New Hampshire (53) for the honors. Southern Connecticut State won two events (110-meter hurdles, triple jump) and produced seven top-three finishes as the foundation for its championship. Thetford Academy graduate Cole Chapman contributed to the tally by placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 5.25 inches. SCSU has won five New England crowns as a program, four of them outdoors
Wallin also guided SCSU to the Northeast 10 outdoor title on May 4-5 to go with the indoor conference crown from back in February. In all, Wallin has earned 15 conference championships since taking over as head coach eight years ago.
KUA at Proctor Sevens

The Wildcats beat the hosts, 22-0, and Portland RFC, 24-0, losing their one match to champions Amoskeag RFC, 25-7. Eliot Stevenson produced three tries for KUA, with Xavier Manning crossing the line twice to go with four conversion kicks to lead the attack.
Antonio Suer (two), Trevor Adams and Thomas Leach also scored Kimball Union tries. Reese Stevenson converted the final kick of the afternoon to complete KUA’s scoring.
