Chelsea — Previously a club program, it was the Sharon Academy baseball team’s players who rallied to achieve varsity status. On Saturday, they rallied for its first varsity win.

Freshman pitcher Tom Bissaillon allowed no earned runs in five innings and went 3-for-3 with two triples as the Phoenix edged Whitcomb-Rochester, 12-8.

Sharon is 1-3.

“It’s great for the players,” said Sharon coach Mike Bissaillon, Tom’s dad. “They’re the ones who got us here, our eight seniors especially.”

Two of those seniors, Aidan Trimble (2-for-4, triple) and Kyle Hedgepeth (1-for-4), had the other hits for the Phoenix, which drew 13 walks.

The Mountaineers scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Sharon responded with four in the home half against Whitchester’s Kevin Kingsbury and never again trailed. Kingsbury exited during a seven-run Phoenix rally in the second inning that blew things open.

Sharon — which plays its home games on Chelsea’s varsity field — will be the home team on Tuesday, when it faces the Red Devils.
