Norwich — Selectboard Chairwoman Mary Layton will face a challenge for her seat at Town Meeting and Selectman Steve Flanders is stepping down, with three competitors vying for his place on the board.

Layton is running for re-election to a three-year seat against Marcia Calloway, an attorney at Dartmouth College who has campaigned against planning and zoning changes that she says could lead to overdevelopment in town.

Flanders in a Wednesday interview cited accomplishments like the construction of a new fire and policy facility and the hiring of a new town manager during his three two-year terms in office. He joined the board in 2011 to complete an unexpired term for a board member who died in office.

Three candidates are running for a two-year term to replace him: Robert Gere, Leah Romano and Claudette Brochu.
