Hanover — Playing in his 99th career game, defenseman Tim Shoup scored the game-winning goal with 7:49 left in the third period to give the Dartmouth College men’s hockey team a 2-1 victory against Colgate on Friday night.

Now 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, the Big Green (9-10-2, 7-6-1 league) is alone in fifth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with 15 points after coming into Friday’s game at Thompson Arena tied with the Raiders (10-11-4, 6-6-1).

Matt Baker and Corey Kalk assisted on Shoup’s goal.

After Colgate’s Paul McAvoy opened the scoring at 5:08 of the first period, Kalk responded with his fifth goal of the season and the 30th of his career just over 7½ minutes later.

Colgate goalie Colton Point was unbeatable at times, finishing the night with 42 saves. At the other end of the ice, Dartmouth’s Devin Buffalo needed to stop just 23, with 11 coming in the final frame.

The 44 shots on goal were a season high for the Green.

Dartmouth hosts No. 2 Cornell at 7 p.m. tonight at Thompson Arena. The Big Red is on a nine-game unbeaten stretch (8-0-1).

Men’s Basketball

Brown 64, Dartmouth 62

Providence, r.i. — Brandon Anderson scored 17 points and Zach Hunsaker got the winning bucket at the buzzer to lift Brown (9-7, 2-1 Ivy League) over Dartmouth (4-12, 0-3).

Dartmouth’s Will Emery tied the game at 62 with the first of two free throws but missed the second shot, and Matt DeWolf grabbed the defensive rebound with 7 seconds left. Hunsaker took the ball down the right side of the court, cut toward the basket and banked in the floating jumper as time expired.

Hunsaker finished with 12 points for Brown.

Dartmouth, which trailed, 37-24, at the break, used an 11-2 run to cut the gap to 60-59 with less three minutes left. Emery, who finished with 18 points, had a three-point play and a dunk during the run.

Chris Knight added 12 points and Adrease Jackson had 13 rebounds to go with nine points for Dartmouth, which has lost six in a row.

Colby-Sawyer 76, Thomas 48

Waterville, Maine — Dana Bean recorded game-highs of 19 points and 18 rebounds, one shy of the program record, to lead Colby-Sawyer (12-5, 9-2 NAC) past Thomas (8-0, 5-6).

Colby-Sawyer continues its Pine Tree State swing today at Maine-Farmington.

Women’s Basketball

Colby-Sawyer 75, Thomas 62

Waterville, Maine — Colby-Sawyer senior Emmani Robinson recorded her fourth-straight double-double and sixth overall with game-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds as Colby-Sawyer (14-4 overall, 9-3 NAC) defeated Thomas (8-10, 5-6).

The Chargers visits Maine-Farmington today.

Women’s Hockey

Dartmouth 3, Brown 2

Providence, r.i. — Tess Bracken’s first career hat trick lifted Dartmouth (5-14-1, 3-11-1 ECAC) to a come-from-behind win over Brown (2-20-1, 1-14-0).

After her second goal tied the game with 6 minutes, 43 seconds left in the third, Bracken gave the Big Green the win with her third goal with 45 seconds remaining in the game.

Bracken’s first goal, with 1:56 left in the first, tied the contest at 1 after Bridget Carey put the Bears on the board 9:08 into the game. Sam Donovan gave Brown the lead with a goal 10:16 into the secon

Dartmouth outshot Brown, 39-28. Big Green goalie Christine Honor had 26 saves and picked up her fourth win of the season. Brown counterpart Cilla Isaac made 36 stops.

The Big Green visits Yale today.

Skiing

Dartmouth 2nd at St. Mike’s

Jeffersonville, Vt. — Sophomore Tanguy Nef and senior Foreste Peterson won the men’s and women’s giant slaloms, respectively, for Dartmouth on Friday at the St. Michael’s Carnival as the Big Green gained a little ground on Vermont in the team standings.

Dartmouth outscored the Catamounts in the two events by five points but still finds itself trailing in the team standings, 725-684, with the only slalom remaining on the docket.

Nef was stellar in both of his runs in the men’s GS, posting the fastest time each time down the mountain. He was the only skier to break 52 seconds on the first attempt, then was the lone competitor to best 54 seconds the second try, coming up with a combined time of 1:45.76, a full 1.2 seconds ahead of Vermont’s Sandy Vietze.

Peterson edged out Vermont’s Paula Moltzan by 0.14 seconds with a time of 1:51.64.

The men’s slalom will begin at 9:30 a.m. today.
