East Thetford, Vt. — Marie T. Eiter (Doudell), of East Thetford, Vt. and Venice, Florida, died Jan. 11 at the age of 75 of complications from cancer. 

She is survived by her spouse, Susan M. Sanderson, and three children: Matt, of Wilder, Vt., Kristin Elliott, of Vershire, Vt., and Steff, of Astoria, Oregon. She is preceded in death by her first spouse, Richard. 

Marie was born in New York City April 18, 1942. She attended Cathedral High School in New York. She received a BA in History from St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa. Marie went on to study psychology, earning a master’s from The New School in New York. She then completed her education at Teachers’ College, Columbia University, earning a PhD. in organizational psychology.

Marie taught psychology at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, from 1977-1980. In 1980 she accepted a position in organizational development at The Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. During her ten years at Chase, she rose to the title of Senior Vice President. In 1991 Marie moved to Hanover, N.H., to take the position of Director of Executive Education at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. In 2001, she became Executive Director of Executive Education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management. In 2004-2005, Marie received the MIT Excellence Award for her work on the BP Projects Academy initiative. She later became Senior Director of Executive Education, before retiring in 2008. Since then, Marie has provided consulting to business schools and has conducted research in the field of executive education. Her work has advanced the field of executive development. Always ready to innovate and mentor others, Marie made a major contribution to executive education in the United States and internationally. 

After having helped found UNICON, the consortium for university-based executive education, she served for many years on the board, and currently was an emeritus board member. She also served on the International Advisory Board of the National Institute for School Leadership, an executive development program for practicing school principals. In 2013, Marie received the Distinguished Alumni award from St. Francis University.

Marie enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, and gardening. She especially enjoyed visiting Monhegan, Maine and all parts of Tuscany. She loved spending time with her family. Although a city girl at heart, Marie loved the beauty, peacefulness, and people of Vermont. She traveled all over the world, but always came home to Thetford, which was truly her special place.
