Claremont, N.H. — Ronald (Ron) Eugene Smith, 84, beloved husband, father and grandfather of Claremont, and The Villages, Fla., passed away at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, after a long illness.

Ron was born in Unity, N.H., on Jan. 7, 1933, the fourth child of Ray O. and Mary (Clough) Smith. He was a graduate of Stevens High School, class of 1950.

Ron was a former member of the Claremont Jaycee’s, the Junior Sports League, and a 25 year member of the Claremont Country Club. He was a member of the Villages Softball League and his beloved Basketball Buddies.

He was an avid golfer and was a big time Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.

Ron was employed for many years by the A & P food stores and retired from Lever Bros. as a senior sales rep.

He was a veteran of the US Army, serving as an M.P. during the Korean Conflict.

Ron is survived by his wife, Beryl (Lamar) Smith; their children, Kevin Smith and his wife, Debra, Karen Schofield and her husband, Paul and Kerry Smith; grandchildren, Jay R. Smith, Barbara M. Smith, Steven Chance and his wife, Lorraine; great-granddaughter, Zoey Smith; one sister, Patricia Parent; brother-in-law, Dean Lamar and his wife, Pauline; also several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Philip, Ray and Kenneth and a daughter-in-law, Magdalene Smith. 

The family wishes to thank the VA and VNH Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion.

Visiting hours will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Friday, Nov.17 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home at 2:30 with the Very Rev, Father Shawn Therrien officiating. Burial will follow in West Claremont Burying Ground.
