Plainfield, N.H. — Betty G. Hayes, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, Vt.

She was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Moultrie, Ga., a daughter of Lester and Mamie (Truett) Plummer. Betty grew up in Enfield, N.H., graduated from Enfield High School, and married Brian Hayes in Enfield, on Nov. 19, 1949. She was a devoted wife and mother and together they made their home and raised their family in Canaan where they lived most of their married lives, until moving to Plainfield in 2001. Betty spent her entire life caring for other people, including working as a nurse’s assistant at area hospitals and nursing homes including Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover and Alice Peck Day in Lebanon.

Her husband predeceased her earlier this year, on June 13, along with her parents, three brothers, James, Clyde and John Plummer as well as a granddaughter, Kasey Hayes.

She leaves her children, Denise L. MacMillan of Surfside Beach, S.C., Maureen E. Raymond of White River Jct., Vt., Donna L. Coakley of Barre, Vt., and Mark B. Hayes of White River Jct.,; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be announced at a later.
