Steppin’ Up to End Violence is sponsored by Turning Points Network, which aims to raise $105,000 through the 5K. More than 80 teams are expected to take part, according to a news release from the nonprofit.
Deb Mozden, Turning Points Network’s executive director, called the fundraiser “vital.”
The nonprofit is now in its 40th year of providing free services to anyone who needs them, Mozden said. “Our work is more important than ever, as we join in solidarity with our community to reduce and eliminate personal violence in all its forms.”
The organization offers a 16-bed emergency shelter, counseling, court advocacy, and help with employment, education, and transitional housing. It also provides violence-prevention education programs to schools in Sullivan County.
Event day registration opens at 8:30 a.m. at Claremont Middle School. The 5K leaves from the school at 10 a.m. Participation is by donation. To register, as an individual or team, go to goo.gl/fS4VZ1.
