Lebanon — Ford Sayre’s Caroline Harrison and Teddy Ruth claimed victories off the K32 hill on Saturday to highlight the Hanover club’s participation in a youth ski jumping meet at Storrs Hill Ski Area.

Ruth scored 180.0 points with a top jump of 29.5 meters to win the boys U16 division over SWSA’s Seth Gardner. Harrison competed unopposed in the U12 girls division, scoring 108.5 points.

Other K32 winners included three New York Ski Education Foundation competitors: Bryce Kloc (U12 boys), Elise Loescher (U14 girls) and Jack Lawrence (U14 boys). Plymouth’s Holly Mason won the U16/high school girls division unopposed, and Kennett’s Dennis Morgan topped a field of 10 in high school boys.

The Lebanon Outing Club’s Ayla Weale finished behind Loescher in the U14 girls meet. Hanover High’s Sawyer Hanlon had the top area result among high school boys, placing third.

Ford Sayre’s Harrison also provided victorious off the K20 ramp, winning the U12 girls division to go with her K32 result. Weale grabbed a win for the LOC among U14 girls, and Ford Sayre’s Caleb Zuckerman, Cameron Forbush, Charlie Forbush, Schuyler Clapp and Augie Krawitt followed in order behind winner Tate Frantz of NYSEF among U12 boys. Zuckerman, Cam Forbush and Krawitt were also 3-4-5 among U12 boys off the K32 ramp.

The LOC’s Morgan Summerton won the girls open division off the K10 jump, scoring 56.5 points to edge two rivals.

FS Juniors at Eastern Cup

Ripton, Vt. — Greta Bolinger recorded a pair of top-10 results for the Ford Sayre Nordic team during last weekend’s Eastern Cup races at Middlebury College’s Riker Ski Center.

Bolinger started on Saturday by placing fifth in the U16 girls classic sprint. Teammates Kennedy Lange (sixth) and Lucy Glueck (eighth) followed close behind. Ford Sayre’s Adam Glueck (17th, men) and Perrin Milliken (19th, women) both advanced to open heat racing in their respective sprints. Erik Lindahl skied to a 10th-place finish in the U18/U20 bracket for FSSC.

Bolinger came back on Sunday and placed eighth among U16 girls over 6 kilometers of freestyle technique, clocking a time of 16 minutes, 27.7 seconds. Lucy Glueck took ninth, with Lange 14th. Milliken was 30th in the women’s 9K race, and Ford Sayre’s Welly Ramsey shared fourth place in the men’s 15K (33:57.4), with Adam Glueck coming home in 10th (34:44.5).

Bradleys Highlight Craftsbury Marathon

Craftsbury Common, Vt. — The Norwich husband-and-wife tandem of Elissa and Joel Bradley both claimed top-10 spots for Ford Sayre in their respective 50-kilometer races at the 36th Craftsbury Marathon on Saturday at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.

Joel Bradley finished ninth overall out of 99 athletes and won the men’s 30-34 age group in his 50K race, posting a time of 2 hours, 53 minutes, 22 seconds. Ford Sayre also produced two other age-group winners in Hanover’s Chris Nice (men 60-64, 20th overall, 3:04:44) and Rick Powell (men 55-59, 25th overall, 3:07:53). Hanover’s Bryce Wing was second behind Powell in their age group and 32nd overall in 3:16:13, and Thetford’s David Lindahl took 47th overall (3:31:09).

Elissa Bradley was fifth out of 25 finishers in the women’s 50K and took third in the 30-34 age group in 3:36:40. East Thetford’s Barbara Knauff also skied for FSSC at Craftsbury, coming in 16th overall and second in the 50-54 age division (4:04:54).

West Lebanon’s Jonathon Chaffee, racing for Ford Sayre, and Newbury, Vt.’s Bob Gray won their respective age divisions in the men’s 25K race. Chaffee topped the 70-74 division in 1:37:45, while Gray took the 75-79 class in 1:40:31. Lyme’s John Griesemer (2:26:20) also raced with the men, as did Thetford’s Nancy Lindahl (2:19:15) in the women’s half marathon.

Taylor Boosts Hopes

Bartlett, n.h. — Ford Sayre Academy’s Lainie Taylor boosted her chances to make the field for the Eastern U16 Alpine Championships at Stowe Mountain Resort in March with her efforts at Jan. 25’s NHARA super-G qualifier at Attitash.

Taylor opened by taking 11th place (1:05.12) in the opening race, then jumped to fourth (1:05.16) in the second race. Evan Schiffman (16th), Lucy Doyle (23rd, twice) and Maya Holmes (29th) also scored in the top 30 for FSA, which saw Ethan Roth and Colter Lingelbach-Pierce hit the top 30 twice among the boys.

FSA GoesTo Ragged Slalom

Danbury, n.h. — Colin Rozzi and Alex Purcell earned podium results on Saturday during an NHARA open slalom at Ragged Mountain.

Plymouth State Unversity’s Dmitri Gedevanishvili won the race in a two-run time of 1:28.70. Rozzi was close behind in second (1:29.47), with Purcell landing in third (1:31.94).

Kyle Rozzi (sixth), Finn Hackett (eighth) Frans Luttmer (14th) and Mal Flynn (24th) completed FSA’s roster at Ragged.

Higgins Wins Kinder Kombi

Newbury, n.h. — Ford Sayre’s Maggie Higgins showed her versatility on Saturday by winning the U10 Kinder Kombi at Mount Sunapee.

The Kombi unites elements of slalom and giant slaom on the same course and requires competitors to show skills at negotiating gates and managing different turn types. Higgins won the event with the fastest times in both runs.

Reese Hamlin (seventh), Dahlia Fuld (11th) and Sadie Ross (13th) all cracked the top 15 for the Ford Sayre girls.

Sam Ames raced to a runner-up finish for Ford Sayre in the boys division. Teammates Ty Christensen (seventh) Gavin Munson (eighth) and Wynn Bushell (13th) also made the top 15.

On the Ice

12Us Split Three

Woodstock — The Woodstock 12Us squeezed a 4-2 win over Rutland in between a pair of losses during a three-game weekend.

At Union Arena, the Wasps erased an early deficit to upend the Spartans on Saturday. Charlie Macko struck twice and Griffin Piconi once in the second period to turn the game around for Woodstock, which clinched the win on a Trey Jones breakaway in the third.

Burlington came south on Friday night to grab a 5-2 win over the Wasps, with goals from Henry Trimpi and Graeme McKeon and assists from Thatcher Jaacks and goalie Declan Flynn.

Barre bested Woodstock on Sunday, 4-1, with Macko providing the Wasps’ tally.

Woodstock 14U Red Rolls

Holderness, n.h. — Field Willis scored just 7 seconds into the game, firing the Wooodstock 14Us to a 9-2 win over Lakes Region at the Plymouth State University Ice Arena on Sunday.

Tommy Bissaillon topped the final scoresheet with a hat trick plus an assist for Wodstock. Willis finished with two goals and two helpers, Ayden Yates also scored twice, and Mathew Sites and Luke Ricci provided the other goals. Andrew Gubbins (two) and Sites also assisted.

Woodstock heads to New York state for games the next two weekends.

13U Girls Sweep Two

Meriden -— Woodstock’s 13U girls played two games at two rinks on Saturday, winning both.

The Wasps started by outpointing Twin Valley at Kimball Union Academy by a 6-3 count. Lily Gubbins struck twice for Woodstock, with Faye Stevens, Skylar Haley, Maggie Mello and Ellie Stadina also scoring. Stadina’s goal was her first of the season, while Haley (two), Gubbins and Myah Earle earned assists.

Woodstock then crossed Vermont to Manchester for a 5-1 win over Northshire U14. Haley led with a goal and two assists, with Stevens, Gubbins and Earle also scoring.

Wild Bantams Busy

West Lebanon — The Hanover Bantam Greens posted a win and a pair of ties in a busy three-game weekend of youth hockey play.

The Wild grabbed the win on Saturday at Campion Rink, doubling up Upper Valley, 6-3. Casey Graham (two goals), Nathan St. Pierre (one goal, one assist) and Andrew Duany (1-1) broke a 3-3 third-period tie for Hanover, which also grabbed goals from Lucie Turcotte and Quincy McBride. Andrew Debois, Colston Allen and Jordan Larson scored for the Storm.

Sunday’s two-tie day started at Campion with a 3-3 deadlock against league-leading New Hampshire East as St. Pierre scored twice and Graham struck once. The two held a rematch at Manchester’s Westside Arena in the afternoon, producing a 4-4 draw in which St. Pierre (two), Austin Kapoukrandis and Pratt Stetson scored for the Wild.

TSAC Lifting Meet

Lebanon — The public is invited to attend — and, if desired, compete in — an Olympic weightlifting meet planned by the Thor’s Stone Athletic Club for Feb. 11 at the CCBA’s Witherell Recreation Center.

Competitors will take part in the snatch as well as the clean and jerk. The meet starts at 1 p.m.

Lady Jacks Pitching Clinic

Windsor — Members of the Windsor High softball program will hold their annual winter pitching clinics at the WHS gymnasium beginning on Sunday for the next five weeks.

Taught by Stef and Katelyn Curtis, the clinics focus mainly on mechanics for younger girls and fine- tuning for older girls. All participants are asked to bring a softball glove and wear gym attire.

In addition to the opening day, the clinics will continue on Feb. 12, 19, 26 and March 5, with grades 4-8 starting at 10 a.m. and grades 9-12 going at 11 a.m. Participants are asked to arrive early the first week to register; enter via the gym’s lower entrance.

The cost of the program is $40 for Windsor residents and $50 for nonresidents.

Karp’s Klassic Signups

Lebanon — The 38th edition of the Karp’s Klassic youth and adult basketball tournament is seeking teams for the March basketball festival, with an added competition set for this year.

The Klassic consists of tournaments for youths from March 3-18 and adults from March 19-25. The youth tourney will feature two divisions for grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8; grades 3-4 will play with 8-foot hoops. A high school town team tournament also is on tap.

The adults will go with A, B/C and Rec divisions on Karp’s final week. New to this year’s Klassic is an adult co-ed three-on-three tournament, also set for the last week.

Tournament fees are $50 for youth teams, $125 for high school town teams, $175 for adult teams and $100 for squads playing in the three-on-three tourney. All entries and fees are due by Feb. 13.

Wednesday WalkersIn the Winter

White River Junction —The Hartford Parks and Recreation Department will revive its regular Wednesday Walkers hiking series with a trio of outdoor events this winter.

Wednesday Walkers features easy morning hikes at sites around the Upper Valley.

Each hike begins by meeting at the Hartford Municipal Building at 9 a.m. for transportation to that day’s hike. The winter schedule:

Feb. 8: Storrs Pond, Hanover.

March 1: Mink Brook Marsh, Hanover.

Participants are asked to bring snacks, bottled water, properly layered clothing and proper footwear to handle winter conditions. Wednesday Walkers is open to all ages, and each hike is done by noon.

Canaan Golf Tourney

Canaan — Be it for laughs, fame or prizes, organizers for the David O. Cushman Memorial Winter Golf Tournament are in the market for golfers.

The event will be staged on Feb. 11 from 1-4 p.m., on Williams Field in Canaan, with registration starting at 12:30 p.m. Golfers will be limited to one club of their choice, and no experience is necessary in order to play.

The cost to participate is $5. Golfers will be eligible for prizes ranging from lowest score to highest score and others. Pizza and drinks will be provided for golfers after their rounds are completed.

Swim-a-Thon Coming

White River Junction — Members of the Upper Valley Aquatic Club swim team will hit the pool to raise funds for a trio of causes during its annual Swim-a-Thon on Feb. 18.

Swimmers will be assigned to two-hour slots in an attempt to complete a maximum of 200 laps. Donors are encouraged to support swimmers with either a flat contribution or one tied to the distance a swimmer completes.
