Hartford — A 52-year-old White River Junction man lost control of the dump truck he was driving on Interstate 91 on Friday in Hartford, causing it to overturn and block both lanes of the highway.

Jeffrey Lyndes was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with minor injuries following the 10:30 a.m. crash, according to a Vermont State Police news release issued on Friday evening.

Police say Lyndes swerved in an attempt to regain control of the truck, causing a “series of overcorrections” that resulted in the truck flipping. It skidded for several feet before coming to rest on its side in the middle of the travel lanes, the release said.

Lyndes was carrying a load of asphalt at the time of the crash, which spilled onto the roadway and into the median.

Police closed I-91 northbound between the Wilder and Norwich exits from 11 a.m. until nearly 5 p.m. while crews worked to remove the vehicle and the asphalt.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Vermont State Police Sgt. Eric Hudson at 802-234-9933.
