UVAC swimmers amassed 23 gold medals in a variety of age groups, scoring enough to edge Executive Swim Club, of Manchester, N.H., for the team victory. UVAC amassed 269 points to Executive’s 258, with the Exeter (N.H.) Swim Team (186) and Manchester Swim Team (70) trailing.
Orford’s Rosie Keith won two events in the ages 9-10 division, with three teammates (Quechee’s Kate Kissell, Norwich’s Joshua Stearns and Margaret Rivard, of Springfield, N.H.) taking one each. Rivard’s older sister, Vera, won three races in the ages 11-12 classification, with Hanover’s Andres Savellano adding one.
Windsor’s Jack Wadsworth (three) and Lebanon’s Grace Wenger (two) were multiple winners in ages 13-14, with Lebanon’s Mariss Hebert, Woodstock’s Isabelle Hiller and Lebanon’s Maggie Wender also victorious. Lebanon’s Catherine Gavell took two races among ages 15 and older, joined by Etna’s Charlotte Bedford, Grantham’s Clare Brown, Hanover’s Erik Hansen and Swiss exchange student Norina Manetsch adding one apiece.
UVAC competitors also broke eight meet records on Saturday.

Sponsord by the Hartford Parks and Recreation Department, the camp is for boys in grades 9-12 and will run the week of Nov. 7-11 from 4-5 p.m. Players will tune up for the coming season by learning to work more effectively in small spaces.

West Lebanon
The clinic includes skating sessions on Saturday from 4-5 p.m. and Sunday from 12:50-1:50 p.m. and will focus on fun. No prior skating or hockey experience is required to be part of the program. The first 25 girls who register to join will get a free T-shirt and a ticket to Friday night’s Northeastern-Dartmouth women’s hockey game at Thompson Arena.
The clinic is free of charge; Hanover Hockey will also help with equipment for those who need it. Online registration is available at www.hanoverhockey.org.

The UVHA Termites program, which begins on Nov. 7, serves as the association’s introduction to ice hockey. Practices are held on Mondays (5:35-6:35 p.m.) and Saturdays (8:15-9:15 a.m.) at Wendell Barwood Arena. Online signup is available at www.uvha.org, and scholarships are available.
The UVHA also sponsors an in-house Mite program called the Be Fit League along with travel Mite hockey. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays (5:35-6:35 p.m.), and registrations are still being accepted.

On the Run
White River Junction
Out Run Cancer’s cheetah run, beginning at 1:30 p.m., is a three-lap run intended for experienced runners and costs $25 per person. The event’s snail run begins at 2 p.m. and is a two-lap run/walk meant for all ages and abilities. T-shirts will be awarded to all finishers. The course is gravel and paved and will not be timed.

Grantham
The race covers paved and nonpaved portions of the Eastman community, beginning and ending at the South Cove Activity Center. The run and walk both begin at 11 a.m., with day-of-race registration starting at 9:30 a.m. Participants are asked to bring a nonperishable food item; all donations will then be forwarded to families in need from Enfield, Grantham, Newport and Springfield, N.H.
Homemade pies go to the top three age-group finishers in the 5K. The course is stroller friendly, and a hearty chili and soup lunch will follow the end of the race.

Women’s coach Bob Dallis and men’s coach Chris Drake will oversee the clinic, which is open to youngsters from kindergarten age through eighth grade. Members of the Big Green’s tennis teams will also participate in instruction.

Down 12-0 early, Upper Valley (5-2) clawed back to level and earned a nine-point lead in the second half before two late tries gave United (5-2) the victory. Darius Long hit the try zone twice for the Mountain Men, with Taylor Harned, Emeric David and Kevin Shaw producing one score each.
The loss dropped Upper Valley into a second-place tie in the division heading into Saturday’s final home game with the Bennington (Vt.) Battle at the old Lebanon Junior High School field. Match time is 1 p.m.

The sessions are open to anyone in Vermont or New Hampshire intersted in working all levels of high school basketball. There is a charge for class materials and the exam.
