Hanover — The Friends of Hanover Football and the Hanover Recreation Department are on the lookout for young football players to fill the roster for its grades 7-8 tackle program.

The team is open to Hanover residents as well as players from beyond the town looking for a team for this fall. Preseason practices with head coach Jeff Goodrich take place at Thompson Terrace’s Tenney Field on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5-7 p.m. along with Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. Once the game schedule starts, practices will be scaled back to Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, with games on Wednesdays.

The program requires 20 players to continue with its season, which is underway and will continue until Oct. 24. The cost to participate is $70 for residents and $80 for nonresidents.

With Weights TSAC Charity Meet Moves to Elks Club

Lebanon — The Lebanon-based Thor’s Stone Athletic Club will host the Mike Costello Memorial charity weightlifting meet at the Lebanon Elks Club on Aug. 27 at 10 a.m.

The meet is a charity fundraiser and will consist of the bench press and dead lift. Prizes will be available for all contestants based on their results.

On the TeeHartford Hockey Classic

Randolph — The Hartford High ice hockey program will take sticks to the links for the 17th Hartford Hockey Open Golf Classic on Oct. 1 at Montague Golf Club.

The tournament is an 18-hole scramble for four-player teams at a cost of $220. The fee includes greens fees, a post-tournament dinner and the chance to claim a variety of prizes. The tournament kicks off with a shotgun start at noon, and the dinner, awards and prizes will be handed out at 4:30 p.m.

New London — The Colby-Sawer College Chargers Club, the school’s athletics booster club, held its 23rd Chargers Club Tennis Classic on Aug. 5-7, crowning champions in six divisions.

The tournament was set up in A and B brackets to ensure players of similar ability played against each other. The champs:

Men’s A: Ben Taylor (Wilmot, N.H.) and Richard King (Bradford, N.H.) defeated B. Manning (Springfield, N.H.) and Bob Wilkie (Sunapee).

Women’s A: Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) and Elyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) defeated Kim Duckless (Hooksett, N.H.) and Camille Madden (Manchester).

Women’s B: Boston’s Rhonda Green and Janet Diesel defeated Dot Diehl (Alexandria, N.H.) and Lisa Metzger (Hopkinton, N.H.).

Mixed A: Eveyln and Samuel Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) defeated Dana Lavoie (Dunbarton, N.H.) and Madden.

Mixed B: Peter and Ruby Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) defeated Kurt and Katherine McCandless (Bradford, N.H.).

At Your PeakNutrition Discussion at RVC

Lebanon — Registered dietitian Amy Tuller will lead a discussion on the latest in sports nutrition for athletes and active people of all ages on Aug. 24 from 6-7 p.m. at the River Valley Club.

Tuller will talk about making good food choices and getting the right amount of energy to maximize performance. The discussion will include information on the optimal ratios of carbs, fat and protein, hydration strategies and ideas for pre- and post-workout meals, among other topics.

On the Run All Out Trail Run

Claremont — The Western New Hampshire Trail Running Series heads to Moody Park on Saturday for the All Out Trail Run.

Saturday’s event, the seventh in the nine-race WNHTRS schedule, covers a 5¾-mile route through Moody Park that will include varying trail surfaces and slopes, with something for everyone. The race is designed to be fun for everyone, from the beginning trail runner to the advanced competitor.

A kids’ race will start the day at 8:30 a.m., followed by the main event at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is $15 per person, with day-of registration costing $20.

Reach the Peak Challenge

Claremont — Mud pools, climbing and other challenges await competitors when the Claremont Recreation Department holds its Reach the Peak race on Aug. 27 at the Arrowhead Recreation Area on South Street.

The event is open to adults as well as children at least 11 years of age. The day will also include a free one-mile kids course for children ages 10 and younger.

The event is limited to 500 competitors. Advance registration is available for $45 for individuals and $140 for a family of four; day-of registration increases to $40 and $150, respectively. Race-day registration begins at 8 a.m.

Zack’s Place Move-a-Thon

Lebanon — Zack’s Place in Woodstock is joining with four other Upper Valley organizations geared toward people with special needs to host the Move-a-Thon 5K on Aug. 28.

The day will consist of a timed 5K run along with a wheelchair-accesible 5K walk along the Northern Rail Trail in Lebanon. The event starts at 8:30 a.m., with day-of registration from 7-8 a.m. at the Upper Valley Senior Center at 10 Campbell Street in Lebanon. Pre-registration is $25 per person (available online at runsignup.com/Race/NH/Lebanon/SpecialNeedsAllianceMoveAthon), increasing to $30 on the day of the event. Everything ends in the field adjacent to the Spark Community Center along the NRT in Lebanon.

Sprouty Run Sept. 10

Sharon — The Sharon Elementary School will hold its annual Sprouty Run for all ages on Sept. 10.

The Sprouty consists of a 10-kilometer run, a 5K run/walk and a kids’ fun run. The 5K and 10K take off at 9 a.m., with the fun run following at 10:15 a.m.

Rivendell Ramble Coming

Orford — Runners and hikers are invited to join the 12th edition of the Rivendell Ramble on Sept. 24 on the Cross Rivendell Trail.

The event operates on donations to the Rivendell Trail Association. The suggested fee is $15 for adults to participate in either a 5K or 10K trail run or 3.6-mile hike planned for the day. The event begins and ends at Rivendell Academy, with shuttle bus service to the race and hike starting locations. A free lunch from area restaurants is also provided to all participants.

Fairlee — The Upper Valley Trails Alliance is lining up food stops and riding routes for its 10th Tour de Taste, a progressive bicycling meal set for Sept. 11 starting at 9 a.m.

Riders may choose routes of six, 21 or 30 miles, all starting in Fairlee for their respective tours. All along each route, participants will get to stop and sample fare provided by eateries around the Upper Valley such as Arianna’s Restaurant, Base Camp Cafe and Lou’s Bakery, among others.

Thetford — The Green Mountain Club’s Ottauquechee Section will resume its Boots to Boats series with a ranger from Woodstock’s Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park with a hike along the Appalachian Trail on Saturday.

The route will cover 3.3 miles from Joe Ranger Road to Vt. Route 14 in West Hartford. The route, moderate to difficult, includes 300 feet of elevation gain and 1,200 feet down, closing with a steep descent. Contact Dick Ruben at 802-333-3707 to join.

Wilder — The Vermont Soccer Officials Association has two clinics remaining this summer for folks interested in refereeing elementary, middle or high school soccer this fall.
