Providence, r.i. — Having already secured an invitation to next month’s USA Swimming Speedo Junior Nationals, Hanover’s Kristian Hansen added a second event at the championships with a second win at last week’s New England Swimming senior championship at Brown University.

Hansen closed the meet on Monday by winning the 800-meter freestyle in 8 minutes, 24.24 seconds to make the qualifying standard. As he did in claiming the 1,500 free in a Junior Nationals-qualifying time (16:00.87) to open the New England meet, Hansen saved his best split of 28.83 seconds for his final trip down the pool to win the race by about one second.

Hansen, who also was fourth in the 400 free at Brown and sixth in the 400 individual medley, won the overall long-distance award at the senior championship. The University of Minnesota will host the Speedo Junior Nationals on Aug. 8-12 in Minneapolis.

On the Diamond Lebanon 10U Wins Tourney

Claremont — Fresh from a third-place finish at the New Hampshire Cal Ripken state tournament, the Lebanon 10U all-stars rolled to four wins, capped by a 12-2 decision over Concord Northeast, to win the 26th Steve Corcoran Memorial youth baseball tournament on Saturday.

Lebanon needed just five innings to claim the title, boosted by a three-double, five-RBI day from Zach Gaudet. Zachary Aldrich, Ben Achmoody, Zach Thompson and Bennett Hewett also had hits for Lebanon, which made use of five Concord errors as well. Sam Bates and Dominic Petkus threw a combined three-hitter, producing six strikeouts and one walk between them.

Lebanon knocked off Concord (12-2), Claremont (20-2) and Swanzey (7-6) to make the final. Gaudet had seven hits in the tournament, teammates Bates and Thompson notched four each, and Petkus joined Alex Shariko and Cayden Van Dolah in the three-hit club. Domineaque Taylor added key innings on the mound in two of the victories.

Lebanon will host the second Howard Logan Memorial Tournament beginning on Saturday and continuing through July 28 at Smith Field in West Lebanon and Logan Field in Lebanon.
