Hanover — Johanna Copeland delivered seven goals and an assist and Molly Seibel set up six goals to go with two scored as the Hanover High girls lacrosse team rang up a 19-14 win over Windham in NHIAA Division II play on Wednesday afternoon at Merriman-Branch Field.

In the midst of four games in five days to close the regular season, the Marauders (11-4) slipped ahead of the Jaguars (11-4) into second place in the division with two games to play.

Copeland’s scoring explosion matched her season high and brought her to 55 goals on the campaign, among the top totals in the Upper Valley.

Maddie Lyons also had a big day for Hanover, scoring four times. Jasmine Lou and Hailey Fahey notched two goals each, Mahler Meyerrose also hit the twin, and Lou provided two assists.

The Marauders close their schedule — and seek to lock down the second seed for states — by hosting Pinkerton today before traveling to Goffstown on Friday.

Hartford 16Stratton Mountain 15

South Londonderry, Vt. — Emily Ruffing scored her team-high ninth goal of the game on a pass from Michaela Ricker with 73 seconds remaining to give Hartford (2-12) its second win of the season just days before the start of the Vermont Division II tournament.

Ruffing, who entered the contest with 11 goals in 13 previous games, wasn’t the only Hurricane to produce in a back-and-forth contest. Ricker had two goals to go with her game-deciding assist, Alice Dwyer scored with one helper, and Kaylee Williams, Morgan Pero, Morgan Furlong and Jasmine Wilson also hit the twine in Hartford’s best offensive game to date.

Jaden Sanborn, Emily Ricker and Furlong rotated in goal, combining on 16 saves. Hartford will learn its D-II tournament destination on Monday.

Boys LacrosseHanover 18Manchester Central 5

Manchester — The Marauders (7-10) received five goals each from Jake Acker and Reed Winter and need to win at Londonderry (10-7) on Thursday to enter the 10-team NHIAA Division I playoffs. Hanover has never missed the postseason since they began in 1994.

Brian Seltzer had three goals and two assists, George Geraghty had two goals and seven assists, Chuck Reichert had a goal and two assists, and Pat Logan and Peter Warhold each tallied once. Zander Lingelbach-Pierce and Joe Warhold combined for six saves during a contest the Marauders led, 10-3, at halftime.

Woodstock 17Otter Valley 3

Brandon, Vt. — The Wasps improved to 8-6 behind Jonas Kantola’s three goals and three assists and Daniel Robinson’s three goals and two assists. Lucas Piconi had three goals and an assist and Jack Arthur had two tallies. Jake Luce made four saves for Woodstock, which is at Rutland on Saturday.

Hartford Hosts Fundraiser

White River Junction — The Hartford High boys lacrosse team has designated tonight’s game with St. Johnsbury as its Coaches vs. Cancer game, with funds raised going toward the American Cancer Society.

The Hurricanes have a doubleheader scheduled with the Hilltoppers on the Hartford High School football field. The junior varsities will play at 5 p.m., with the varsities to follow at 7 p;.m.

The game will also double as Hartford’s senior night contest.

Girls TennisHanover 7, Windham 2

Hanover — Two years into their reign as NHIAA D-II champs, the second-seeded Marauders (14-0) took their first steps toward a third title by controlling the seventh-ranked Jaguars at Storrs Pond.

Hanover clinched the team win early by taking five of the six singles matches, getting victories from Izzi Davis (8-3), Margaret Werner (8-2), Ellen Lamm (8-2), Bri Laycock (8-4) and Mindy Wu (8-1). Davis and Laycock grabbed an 8-5 doubles win, which Werner and Lamm joined by taking their match, 8-3.

Hanover returns to Storrs Pond on Friday to host a semifinal against St. Thomas.

Track and FieldWindsor Hosts Meet

Windsor — Multi-event winners abounded at a meet hosted by the Yellowjackets.

For Oxbow, William Douglas captured the 1,500 and 3,000 meters and Leanne Burgess was first in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters. Izzy Geising won the triple jump and the javelin.

Thetford’s Christian Jones claimed the 110 and 300 hurdles. South Royalton’s Connor Lambert earned the javelin and triple jump titles, and Hartford’s Ileana Sirois won the 300 hurdles and the 100 meters.

Boys team scores: Thetford 131, Oxbow 106, South Royalton 79, Windsor 74, Hartford 63, Chelsea 23, Whitcomb 18, Sharon 6.

Rochester, Vt. — After barely getting past the upstart Raptors on Monday in Orford, the Mountaineers (6-9) made quick work of Wednesday’s rematch by scoring 14 times in the first inning at Rochester Elementary High School.

Ashli Pike had a two-run double and Amelia Mattrick added a two-run triple to the opening barrage. Both finished the day with two hits, with Pike scoring once and Mattrick twice to go with a game-high four RBIs. Mattrick and Avery Palmer (3-for-3, three runs) both homered, and Lindsey LaPerle piled up two triples, a double and two RBIs for Whitchester.

The Mountaineers visit Williamstown in their regular-season finale on Friday.

Sunapee 12, Epping 0 (5)

Sunapee — Katie Frederick threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk. She had three hits, including a two-run home run, and four RBIs.

Lexie Hamilton and Jessica Parsons each had three hits for the Lakers (15-0), who host Hinsdale today to conclude the regular season.

Leland & Gray 8Woodstock 7

Townshend, Vt. — The Wasps (9-6) started slowly but nearly completed a comeback win, leaving the tying and winning runs on base at game’s end.

Down 5-1 after two innings, Woodstock plated three third-inning runs with the aid of a Heather Blanchard RBI hit. Elizabeth Fitzpatrick’s RBI hit keyed a two-run fourth for a 6-5 lead, but the Rebels tied the game in the fifth and went ahead in the sixth.

Lorette Blakeney opened the Wasps’ seventh with a walk, moving to second on a Blanchard single. Three batters later, Kennedy Moore delivered an RBI single to bring Woodstock within a run, but Leland & Gray buckled down to get the final out.

Blanchard finished with two RBIs, Moore had two hits, Emma Walker drove in a run and Blakeney contributed a double for Woodstock, which closes its regular season at Mill River on Saturday.

Windham 18, Hanover 5

Norwich — The Marauders fell to 0-17 and conclude their season Friday vs. Plymouth (12-3).

Becca Wilson threw a 10-hitter with one strikeout and five walks. Bri Elder and Anna Heise each had a hit for Hanover.

Newport 8, Monadnock 2

Swanzey, n.h. — The Tigers improved to 10-5 with the victory. They’ll close their regular season at Kearsarge today.

Rochester, Vt. — The host Mountaineers surrendered 10 runs in the sixth inning and another 10 during the seventh, falling to 7-8.

“It was going all right until the sixth and then the wheels came off the bus,” said Whitchester coach Chris Mattrick, whose squad had 14 hits, surrendered 13 hits and concludes the regular season at Williamstown on Friday. “We had the bases loaded a couple of times and just couldn’t bring ‘em in.”

The Mountaineers committed 10 errors and received three hits, including a triple, from Kevin Kingsbury. Ben Harvey had three hits, including a double. They both had two RBIs. Isaac Hodgdon and Troy Walker each had two hits.

Rivendell’s Dashiel Fukushima had two hits, including a three-run home run, and four RBIs. Charlie Bradley had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs.

The Raptors (5-9) visit Twinfield on Friday to end the regular season.

Sunapee 8, Epping 0

Sunapee — Cole Cruz tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts and four walks for the Lakers (14-1), who end the regular season today by hosting Hinsdale.

Ben Robinson had two doubles and three RBIs, Mike Platt had two hits and an RBI.

Cade Robinson had two hits and Matt Nangeroni had a hit and an RBI.

Harwood 3, Oxbow 2 (11)

Bradford, Vt. — The Highlanders’ first batter in the last inning drew a walk, stole second, reached third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a sacrifice fly with no outs.

Nick Daigle threw a seven-hitter during a 10-inning outing in which he struck out one batter and walked six while throwing 100 pitches. He allowed three runs but only one was earned as the Olympians committed six errors behind him. Hayden Tomlinson relieved him to start the 11th inning.

Lincoln Isley had two of his team’s three hits, including a double.

Oxbow (6-9) concludes the regular season today against Thetford at Manchester’s Delta Dental Stadium.

Hopkinton 9, Mascoma 0

Hopkinton, n.h. — The Royals were eliminated from NHIAA Division III playoff contention for the second consecutive season. Derek French started but allowed four first-inning runs before giving way to Tyler Findley, who allowed six hits and three earned runs the rest of the way.

“It was probably his best outing of the season,” said Mascoma coach Guy Serviss, whose team concludes its campaign Friday against visiting White Mountain.

Ethan Brueckner had three hits and Tyler Warner two, but their teammates combined for only one more. The Royals (4-11) committed one error.

Leland & Gray 11Woodstock 8

Townshend, Vt. — The Wasps (1-14) couldn’t hold a one-run lead during the fifth inning, surrendering six runs in the bottom of that frame. Joe Bianchi had two hits and three RBIs and Kyle Weirther had two two hits and an RBI.

Hunter Balch started before being relieved by Cody Chase. Balch allowed four hits and eight runs, five of them earned. He walked five batters, struck out none and hit two.

Woodstock had five hits and concludes the regular season Saturday at West Rutland.

Monadnock 18, Newport 0

Swanzey, n.h. — The Huskies made quick work of the Tigers (4-11), who head to Kearsarge today for their season finale.

Stevens 4, Fall Mountain 2

Langdon, n.h. — The Cardinals (6-9) boosted their hopes for an NHIAA Division III playoff spot with a key road victory over the Wildcats (6-9). Stevens closes the regular season by hosting Hillsboro-Deering for a makeup game at Veterans Park on Friday afternoon.

Hopkinton 11, Mascoma 4

Hopkinton, n.h. — The Royals (0-15) had their best offensive game in two weeks. They’ll wrap up their campaign on Friday against White Mountains at Shaker Recreation Park.

College BaseballPeterson All-New England

Hanover — Dartmouth reliever Patrick Peterson made the Big Green’s lone appearance on the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association all-region team on Wednesday, making the third team.

The sophomore from Illinois made his first appearance on the all-New England squad after making the all-Ivy League first team last week.

The Big Green’s closer owned a 1.65 earned-run average to go with a 3-0 record and four saves last season. He also struck out 28 batters in 32 innings of work and held opposing batters to a .165 average.

Through two years, Peterson owns a 7-0 record with 10 saves and a 2.59 ERA in 32 appearances covering 59 innings.
