Lebanon — Even a couple of hiccups don’t seem to be enough to perturb the Lebanon High boys tennis team.

The Raiders entered Tuesday’s NHIAA Division II quarterfinal with Plymouth minus one top competitor and with a second unable to immediately start his match. It mattered not a whit as second-ranked Lebanon adjusted its lineup and dismissed the seventh-seeded Bobcats, 9-0, at the Carter Community Building Association courts.

Normal singles No. 2 Terran Campbell sat out the match with an injury, while No. 3 Noah Didehbani needed to find replacement equipment before he could take the court. So coach Mike Haxton juggled his lineup, moving everyone up a slot as Didehbani prepared. The Raiders quickly took the five points necessary to advance to Thursday’s semifinals.

“The team has been focused all season on getting back to the finals,” Haxton said in an email.

Owen Johnstone (8-3), Ben Ask (8-3) and Noah Ryder (8-1) all moved up a spot with Campbell’s absence to get victories, while Nick Haidari stepped in at No. 6 and cruised in his match, 8-1. The victories added to No. 1 Jacob Peress’ 8-1 decision and Didehbani’s 8-0 shutout at No. 2.

Haidari stepped in for Campbell and joined Peress for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Haxton kept the tandems of Ask-Johnstone and Didehbani-Ryder together for two more wins.

The Raiders will host the winner of today’s Goffstown-Portsmouth quarterfinal on Thursday in the semifinals. Lebanon dropped a 5-4 decision to the Clippers in last year’s state championship match.

Derryfield 8, Hanover 1

Manchester — The No. 3 Cougars took care of the sixth-ranked Marauders in the opening round of the NHIAA Division I tournament.

Aidan Biglow achieved the lone victory for Hanover, edging Derryfield’s Brock Higley, 8-4, at fourth singles.

The Marauders lost the other eight matches by at least four games, the closest coming at No. 1 singles (Sam Grondin over Graham Dickson) and No. 2 doubles (Grondin-Gacin Shilling over Dickson-Benny Gantrish), both 8-4.

It was the final match for Hanover seniors Dickson, Calvin Anthony-Duscheid, Frank Johnon and Marco Perry.

Baseball Lebanon 4, Con-Val 3

Lebanon — Derek Griffin threw a complete-game six-hitter and the Raiders scored four runs in the fifth inning to reverse a 1-0 deficit and win their regular-season finale.

Griffin fanned four, walked two and surrendered just one earned run. Joah Moss delivered an RBI double to key the big rally, to which Caleb Broughton added a two-run single and Nate Perkins delivered a run-scoring single, both with two outs.

Con-Val closed within a run in the seventh but stranded the tying run at third base to end the game. Lebanon awaits its NHIAA Division II seed on Monday.

Woodsville 8, Moultonborough 1

Woodsville — Jordan Clark excelled on the mound and at the plate as the Engineers improved to 10-5.

Clark pitched the first four innings, allowing six hits, one walk and on earned run while striking out two for the win. Offensively, Clark went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Tristan Charles took three for the team, getting hit by a pitch three times and coming around to score on all three occasions.

Tanner McKeage went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and reliever Cooper Davidson allowed no hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work for the Engineers.

Woodsville plays at Groveton in its regular season finale on Thursday in a rematch of the Engineers’ 11-10, walk-off win in Woodsville earlier this season.

“(The Purple Eagles) are only one game behind us in the standings,” Woodsville coach Brent Cox said. “They’ll be ready for us.”

Randolph 3, Thetford 0

Randolph — The Panthers fell to 4-11 despite outhitting the Galloping Ghosts, 4-3.

Jack Sweet, Aiden Cudhea, Alden Nichols and Erik Lindahl garnered the hits for the Panthers, while Connor Brown struck out four and allowed three hits and four walks in six innings on the mound.

Randolph scored all of its runs in the fifth, two on an error and the last on a suicide squeeze.

The Panthers play their fourth game in six days on Thursday against Oxbow at Manchester’s Fisher Cats stadium.

Springfield 7, Windsor 2

Springfield, Vt. — The Yellowjackets (6-8) stranded 11 baserunners in the loss.

Windsor managed five hits while drawing six walks off winning pitcher Jon Hildrath.

Jake Meagher (four innings, seven hits, five runs, three strikeouts, one walk) and Robert Slocum (two innings, one earned run) spent time on the hill for Windsor, which visits Mill River on Thursday.

Softball Fair Haven 14, Windsor 0

Fair Haven, Vt. — Senior Emily Anderson got her chance to pitch — the only position she hadn’t played in her varsity softball career — and threw two shutout innings to close the Yellowjackets’ loss to the Slaters.

Anderson came in for Katie Harriman after Fair Haven had built its advantage, and she induced five popups out of her six outs to end the game. “She had a big smile on her face, and the kids were behind her,” Windsor coach Phil Hathorn said. “That took the edge off a little bit.”

Fair Haven pitcher Olivia Bowen (10 strikeouts) held Windsor to two hits. Naila Thompson ended Bowen’s no-hit bid with a solid single in the fourth, and Kacie Charest added a slap bunt single in the fifth.

The Jacks host Bellows Falls in their senior game on Thursday.

Con-Val 21, Lebanon 9Con-Val 18, Lebanon 2

Peterborough, n.h. — The Raiders (2-14) wrapped their first season under coach Kassie Dunkerton by dropping a doubleheader to the Cougars (3-12).

Lebanon slapped eight hits in the opener, getting three from Abbey Brann, two from Morganne Young and one each from Karli Sou, Sydney Broughton and Daisy Haley. Young drove in a pair of runs and Maddy Tilton and Carlee Schettino each netted one RBI in support of pitcher Kristen Anderson (complete game, two strikeouts, eight walks).

Young and Sophie Hammond netted the Raiders’ nightcap runs. Haley provided two hits, Broughton and Young added one each, and Broughton went the distance in the circle with seven strikeouts and six walks.

Seniors Brann, Haley, Schettino, Sou and Young played their final games in Lebanon colors.

The Canes finished with a team tally of 198, good for a three-stroke victory. Sophomore Kobe Labonte shot 51 in his first varsity match for Hartford, and rounds of 51 from Ben Healy and 52 from Kody Wessel completed the Canes’ scoring.

Men’s Basketball Dartmouth Fills Staff

Hanover — First-year Big Green coach David McLaughlin filled out his staff on Tuesday with the hiring of Pete Hutchins, Mike Quinn and Jabari Trotter as assistant coaches.

Hutchins arrives having spent the last nine years coaching at the New Hampton School, where he was named NEPSAC Class AAA coach of the year for guiding the Huskies to a 21-8 record. Six of his past players have gone on to Ivy League basketball programs. Hutchins is a 2005 graduate of Plymouth State University.

Quinn spent last winter as the director of basketball operations at George Mason and held the same role with another Atlantic 10 school, Forham, the year before that. Quinn is familiar with McLaughlin having worked with him on the staff at Stonehill College from 2011-14.

Trotter reunites with his alma mater as an assistant, having graduated from Dartmouth in 2012 after playing the second-most games in program history at 112. He played and coached briefly in Ireland after graduating and worked last winter as director of men’s basketball operations at Lehigh.
