GRANTHAM โ A “suspicious death” at Eastman Pond in Grantham is under investigation, police said at the scene near the pond’s boat launch on Friday afternoon.
“At this time, there is no known threat to the public,” according to an alert the town sent out at 12:10 p.m.
The Grantham Police and Fire departments had been on the scene at the state boat launch, which is located on Road Around the Lake, since Friday morning, according to the alert.
“Since that time, there has been a significant law enforcement presence at multiple locations within Eastman,” according to the notice. “Law enforcement personnel are expected to remain on scene for an extended period while the investigation continues.”
Grantham Police Cpt. James MacKenna, who was on the scene, confirmed that multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating a suspicious death. Three police cars were parked near the boat launch at about 1 p.m.
An employee at the Grantham Police Department declined to comment when reached by phone around 12:40 p.m.
The Springfield Police Department, New Hampshire State Police, New Hampshire Marine Patrol, New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, and Eastman Security also responded to the incident, according to the release.
Eastman Pond is about 330 acres and has a maximum depth of around 30 feet, according to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services.
