New York — The New York Knicks are working on a deal to hire Jeff Hornacek as their coach, a person with knowledge of the details said.

Knicks President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson has had discussions with the former Suns coach and there is mutual interest, but they have not begun negotiations on a contract, the person tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because details of the coaching search are private.

Bleacher Report first reported Wednesday that the Knicks would hire Hornacek.

The Knicks finished the season with Kurt Rambis as interim coach after Jackson fired Derek Fisher in February. Jackson also met with former Cleveland coach David Blatt and former Indiana coach Frank Vogel before turning his attention to Hornacek.

Hornacek went 101-112 in 2½ seasons in Phoenix before he was fired Feb. 1 with a 14-35 record.

Charlotte, n.c. — NASCAR fined the crew chief for driver Kasey Kahne as a part of a slew of penalties levied against the Hendrick Motorsports team for failing post-race inspection.

Crew chief Keith Rodden was fined $25,000, Kahne was docked 15 points in the standings, and the No. 5 team lost 15 points in the owners’ standings.

The No. 5 Chevrolet did not meet specifications on NASCAR’s laser platform post-race at Dover International Speedway. Kahne finished fourth.

Sevilla Three-Peats As Europa Champ

Basel, Switzerland — Sevilla stunned Liverpool with a 3-1 comeback win to take a record third straight Europa League title on Wednesday.

Swept aside in the first half yet trailing only 1-0, the Spanish club equalized 18 seconds after the restart with Kevin Gameiro’s goal from close range and Coke striking twice in the 64th and 70th minutes.

The third goal was furiously disputed by Liverpool after an assistant signaled an apparent offside against Coke, then lowered his flag.

Liverpool had led on Daniel Sturridge’s beautifully curled shot with the outside of his left foot in the 35th.

Defeat leaves Liverpool with no European football next season and dealt coach Juergen Klopp a fifth straight loss in a cup final.

Victory in the second-tier competition, for the fifth time in 11 seasons, lifts Sevilla into the Champions League group stage next season.

Rampone Returns

Chicago — Defender Christie Rampone is returning to the U.S. women’s team for the first time since September.

The American captain had arthroscopic surgery on her right knee on Sept. 4, a day after playing until the 51st minute of a 7-0 exhibition win over Mexico. Rampone, 40, has appeared in all five of Sky Blue’s games this season in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Rampone is among 25 players who will report to Denver on May 27 ahead of a June 2 exhibition against Japan at Commerce City, Colo.

NFL Football Gronk No Swan in Ballet Lesson

Boston — Don’t look for Rob Gronkowski to spike his slippers in the end zone anytime soon.

The New England Patriots’ star tight end had a dance lesson with Nathalia Arja, a soloist from the Miami City Ballet — and his bulk and gridiron moves didn’t exactly make him a natural.

A video of the lesson from men’s magazine GQ is getting lots of clicks and laughs on social media.

It shows Gronkowski awkwardly attempting a plié, an arabesque and other classical ballet moves. At the end of the lesson, he asks Arja how he did. Her diplomatic response: “Well, I think you did a lot better than how we started today.”

Ezekiel Elliott signed a four-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys that includes a $16 million signing bonus and is worth nearly $25 million overall for the Ohio State running back, who was the fourth overall draft pick.
