Intentional diminishing of America’s standing
I’m distressed by the intentional diminishing of America’s standing in the world. Decades of hard-won progress advancing U.S. diplomacy and principled foreign policy have been dismantled. Seasoned diplomats have been driven out. Foreign assistance has been gutted. Human rights abuses are ignored or excused. Corporate interests are being given priority over national security. The message to the world is clear: America’s values are for sale.
These attacks are clearly the result of a deliberate effort to replace values-based leadership with transactional, short-sighted deals that weaken America’s alliances and embolden authoritarian regimes. Every day the Trump regime advances this agenda makes it harder to ever rebuild the credibility and trust our country once commanded on the world stage.
Our future peace and security demands that we not accept this. We dare not passively allow America’s values to be traded away. Instead, we must actively work to elect leaders who will implement a values-based foreign policy that protects human rights, upholds the rule of law, and prioritizes diplomacy over destruction. Then we must support them in the fight for a foreign policy rooted in human dignity, workers’ rights, the rule of law, and diplomacy over destruction.
