Claremont, N.H. — Hazel (Lewis) Carpenter, 89, of Claremont, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Elmwood Center in Claremont. Hazel was born in Whitefield, N.H. on March 25, 1927 the daughter of Walter A. and Esther (LaMott) Lewis.

She spent her early years in Sugar Hill and resided in Claremont for over 40 years. For years Hazel worked at the lunch counter for Fisherman’s Dept. Store in Claremont and then at the Sullivan County Healthcare Center.

Once retired, she volunteered her time by driving Seniors to appointments and assisting them with errands. Hazel was a member of the Beaver Grange years ago in Springfield, N.H. and also the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was an avid reader and loved cats.

Members of her surviving family include her four children, Arthur Carpenter and his wife, Marcia of Ariz.; David Carpenter, Sr. and his wife, Louise of Claremont; Lori Earle and her husband, Mike of Ariz.; and Donna Decato of Claremont; her 12 grandchildren: Amanda, Adam, Veronica, Angela, David, Jr., Vicki, Kelly, Nicole, Shelly, Matthew, Michael and Tracy; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four sisters and one brother.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wilmot, N.H.
