“We pull back the curtain so people can see the inner workings of an art or craft studio or gallery, a local winery or shop, and talk to the makers and owners about their work and products,” Miriam Carter, executive director of the League of NH Craftsmen, said in a news release. The league manages the event, scheduled for Nov. 4 and 5, with support from the state and other arts and business organizations.
Carter said the weekend is a perfect way to start shopping for the holidays while supporting New Hampshire artisans.
“Another reason people enjoy taking the tour is to shop for holiday gifts that represent New Hampshire,” she said. “From one-of-a-kind art and craft to locally produced food, wine and spirits, there are many gift options at various price points to choose from.”
The self-guided weekend includes a “Dartmouth Region Tour,” which brings visitors to five Upper Valley artisans.
The tour starts at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen Fine Craft Gallery Shop at 13 Lebanon St. in Hanover. At the shop visitors can meet artist Walker Boyle, who designed the league’s 2017 annual ornament. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The next stop is Pinnacle Studio, 1 Orfordville Road in Lyme, the workspace and exhibition hall for mother-and-son artists Phyllis and Matthew Greenway. The Greenways will have framed and unframed oils, watercolors, calligraphy, woodblock prints and monotypes for viewing and purchase from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
While in Lyme, tour participants can also visit Matt Brown Fine Art, a new gallery specializing in color woodblock prints and art, crafts and books made by residents of Lyme and Thetford. The gallery is located at 1 Main St. in Lyme, and will be open on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Dorchester Grange Craft Bazaar at 24 Town House Road in Dorchester will be hosting local artists ranging from woodworkers to fiber artists. There will be homemade chili and baked goods for sale, with proceeds to benefit holiday parties for local children. The craft bazaar is taking place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The final stop on the Dartmouth Region tour is the Cardigan Mountain Artisan Fair, where league member Barbara McAlister, a mixed-media artist, will be displaying her collection. An array of other artists will also be at the fair, which runs Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Enfield Community Building, 308 Route 4 in Enfield.
