Lebanon — TomTom, the Amsterdam-based maker of navigation and mapping products, GPS sports watches and other location-based products, has laid off about 25 employees at its office in Lebanon’s Centerra Park.

A corporate representative said the layoffs were the result of increased use of automation in the development of the company’s mapping products. The representative would not confirm the exact number of layoffs.

TomTom has more than 4,700 employees at 58 offices in 35 countries. It posted sales of approximately $1.07 billion in 2016, down slightly from $1.09 billion the year before. Income was $13.1 million for 2016, down from $32.3 million the prior year.

In Lebanon, it operates out of a 41,757-square-foot office at 11 Lafayette St.

The company’s presence in the Upper Valley is the result of its acquisition in 2007 of Tele Atlas North America, which had its U.S. headquarters in Lebanon. Tele Atlas had acquired Lebanon-based Geographic Data Technology Inc. in 2004.

The company changed its name to TomTom North America Inc. in 2011.
