The Granite State scored twice in its final at-bat to take the opener, 6-5.
Smith earned the Vermont MVP award in the series, going 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, a stolen base and two runs scored. Smith scored Vermont’s first run in the nightcap and closed it out with an inning on the mound for the save.
The recent Hartford grad singled and scored in the first inning for a 1-0 Vermont lead. Down 3-0, New Hampshire notched an unearned run in the fourth and closed the gap to 3-2 on an RBI single from Sunapee’s Cole Cruz (2-for-3 in nightcap).
The Granite State put two on with two outs in the seventh before Smith took the mound and earned the final out.
Cruz drove in a run in the opener to help New Hampshire to an early 2-1 lead. Smith slapped an RBI single in the top of the fourth for a 4-2 Vermont advantage, but Cruz’s two-run double in the sixth reversed the game for good.
Cruz earned the New Hampshire MVP award with a 4-for-5 day at the plate with three stolen bases and three RBIs.
South Windsor, Conn. —
Spencer tossed 6 innings for the win in a opening 4-1 defeat of Cranston, R.I. Spencer fanned six, walked one and surrendered six hits, getting an out’s worth of help from Jordy Allard to get out of a sixth-inning jam.
Spencer also singled, doubled and drove in three runs for Post 84 (1-3). Wyatt Connor had a pair of hits and two runs for Hartford.
Post 84 dropped its second game of Saturday to host South Windsor, Conn., 13-2. Seth Balch threw well despite leaving in the third inning; only four of his eight runs allowed were earned.
Post 84 closes the tournament against Shields (R.I.) today.
New London
Coby Hussey opened Post 22’s first inning with a double, scoring on a Matt Braley RBI single. Henry Day gave Lebanon a lead in the second with an RBI double that plated Trey Parker.
Sweeney took over from there, building a 3-2 lead after four frames and clinching the win with two runs in the ninth. Andrew Houde took the loss, throwing into the sixth inning and allowing seven hits.
Braley and Day both had two-hit afternoons for Post 22, which hosts Goffstown at Lebanon High School this afternoon.

Emrys Elkouh gained the win in relief for Post 22, throwing four innings of four-hit ball. Eli Jaynes had a big opener, going 5-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and six RBIs. Seanon May hit safely twice, walked twice and scored five runs.
Alton rebounded for a 5-3 win in the nightcap, jumping to an insurmountable 4-0 lead through two frames. May, Jaynes, Andrew Hadlock, Kyle Pelletier and Ryan Nicholson all singled for Lebanon, while May took the loss on the mound.
