Claremont, N.H. — Bette Jean Blackington, 76, of Claremont, passed away Wednesday, June 7 at her home. She was born Nov. 24, 1940, the daughter of Hope and Raymond Wood. Bette graduated from Tufts University with a dental hygienist degree and married the late Alan E. Blackington in 1961. She worked for Valley Regional Hospital, Dartmouth College, and Kendal at Hanover for many years.

Bette was an avid knitter and volunteered her time and skills at Mt. Ascutney Hospital knitting specialty items. Her family was at the center of her heart, including the many dogs and cats who also called her ‘Mom.’ Later in life she mastered the iPad and boogie boarding at Hampton Beach.

Bette is survived by her daughters, Terrie Scott and Meg Baker, Meg’s husband, Adam, of Newport, grandchildren Christopher Burth of Claremont, Kevin Burth of Charlotte, J. Cassidy Scott and his wife, Tuany Tarcitano, of Boston, Michelle Burth of Charlotte, Dylan Scott of New York City, Graham Scott of Newport, and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Larrie and Richard.

At Bette’s request, no services or calling hours will be held.

Bette’s daughters are very grateful to the TLC Nursing Associates and the Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice staff for the wonderful care they provided to our mother during her last months.
