Grantham — The Grantham Police Department is asking residents with pets to remain vigilant after a man who lives along Route 10 said someone tried to lure two of his dogs into a car.

Police Chief John Parsons said Derek Richardson let the two pit bulls out into his yard around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday and shortly afterward heard whistling. When he looked over, Richardson told police, he saw the passenger door of an out-of-state vehicle open and a bag of dog food nearby.

Richardson called his dogs and they came to him. The driver of the late-model, two-door red Honda Civic then took off.
