New London — Officials at New London Hospital are warning area residents to be wary of a telephone scam seeking credit card information.

The hospital said it has received about 10 reports in the past week-and-a-half of fraudulent calls in which the Caller ID has been altered to make it appear as if the calls originate from New London Hospital.

The scammers then ask for credit card information to pay for medical services, the hospital said.

“These calls are not originating from New London Hospital, and they are fraudulent,” New London Hospital CEO Bruce King said in a letter to area residents. “We also want to assure you that your medical information has not been compromised, and our data systems remain secure.”

Hospital officials said the only phone number that would display from a legitimate call from the hospital is 603-526-2911.

Anyone who is unsure if a phone call seeking payment for a New London Hospital bill is legitimate should hang up and call 603-526-5292 and ask to speak with a financial counselor at the hospital, officials said.
