Newport, NH – Camellia “Iris” Horne, 96, of Newport NH, passed away peacefully surrounded in love by her family, on June 22. 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Iris was born in New York City, NY on January 10, 1930, to the late Marshall Costello and Camellia H Day. She grew up in Haverhill, MA, then moved to Exeter, NH where she attended and graduated from Robinson Female Seminary; a prominent girl’s high school. Iris then went onto Kathleen Dell Business School in Boston, MA.
In 1949, Iris married the late Robert G. Horne and together they had eight children. In 1972 they moved to “The Farm”, on Route 10 in Newport, NH. Iris lived a very active, fulfilling life; raising her children, traveling, ballroom dancing, writing, enjoying nature and spending time with her grandchildren. Her career was in business, working for various organizations; D.G. O’Brien, Salem State College, and VINS. In 1980, Iris and her lifetime friend Mary Alice, started a business, EMMAUS, providing Secretarial Support Seminars, to enhance the secretarial profession. She was a devout parishioner of St. Michael Parish in Exeter, NH, and St. Patrick Parish in Newport, NH. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox for many years, enjoyed betting on the dog and horse races and solving word searches.
Iris is survived by her children: Bill Horne of Minnesota, Randy Horne of Newport, Bob Horne of Claremont, Marianne Horne of Claremont, Cindy Osborne (Mark) of Springfield, VT and Teresa Horne of Newport; her sister Mary “Babe” Caswell of Hampton, NH; and was blessed with 18 grandchildren. 23 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Iris was predeceased by daughters Deborah Chase, and Diane Horne; son-in law Paul Chase Sr.; her parents “Grammy Day” and Marshall Costello; her brothers Joe Costello, Marty Day, and Peter Day; and grandson Stephen Smith.
As Iris’s wishes were, there will be no service. Iris’s family will gather at “The Farm” in Newport, NH to celebrate her life.
