Hanover, NH – Christopher Dennis Thron, 94, of Hanover, New Hampshire passed away peacefully on May 5th, 2026. Dennis, as he was known, was born on December 15, 1931 in New York, NY to Leopold Edward Thron and Laura Beach Thron. He grew up in Paterson and Montclair, New Jersey-but he spent 70 years in New England and was a quintessential New Englander.
After Dartmouth (class of 1953) and Harvard Medical School, Dennis had positions at Geisinger Medical Center (Danville, PA), Bethesda Naval Hospital (Bethesda,MD) and Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY) before joining the department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Dartmouth Medical School in 1969. His research spanned both experimental and theoretical pharmacology, combining laboratory investigation with mathematically sophisticated models. He was a meticulous researcher and a dedicated teacher who set high standards for himself and for his students.
Dennis approached life with deliberation, insight and careful consideration. He was a truly independent thinker with deep ethical principles and unshakeable integrity. To his family he was the ultimate provider, inspirer, counsellor and most reliable authority on anything worth knowing about. He was very imaginative and creative and could fix or make pretty much anything. He was genuinely interested in the pursuits and activities of his children and grandchildren and knew exactly how to encourage and support each one.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Ann Mosenthal Thron, his brother John and sister-in-law Anna Marie, five grateful children, 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. He will be forever remembered for his patience, wisdom, creativity, intelligence, kindness and subtle, but hilarious, sense of humor.
