Menโ€™s tennis snapped its three-match losing streak with a strong weekend, picking up two straight wins in conference play. 

On Saturday, Dartmouth hosted Penn and came away with a 5-2 win. Miles Groom, Yujiro Onuma, and Leo Pade had singles wins, while the teams of Henry Ren and Groom and Adrian Treacy and Malhar Patel had the double wins. 

That win was followed by another on Sunday, 4-3, against visiting Princeton. Groom, Treacy, and Pade won in singles. The duos of Ren and Groom and Treacy and Patel once again won in doubles.

Groomโ€™s performance over the weekend got him to the 152 wins mark in his career, which is the second most in program history. Ren also got over the 110 career wins mark. 

The Big Green are now 14-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They face Yale on the road on Friday at 2 p.m. and host Brown on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Womenโ€™s tennis splits over the weekend 

The Big Green began play this weekend with a 4-1 road win at Penn on Saturday. Michela Moore, Peyton Capuano, and Alexandra Orlins had the singles wins. The pairs of Sam Grosjean and Orlins and Moore and Capuano won in doubles.ย 

Dartmouth could not keep the momentum going on Sunday, falling on the road to Princeton, 4-1. The Big Green had doubles wins from the duos of Josephine Lombardi and Elise Wong and Grosjean and Orlins.

The Big Green are now 13-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They host Yale on Friday at 2 p.m. and travel to Brown on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup. 

Dartmouth finds new field hockey coach 

The college announced on Monday that it has hired Jason Klinkradt as its new field hockey head coach. His most recent position was as an assistant coach at Old Dominion.

โ€œJason’s command of the game, demonstrated effectiveness in building culture, and belief that elite competition and academic excellence are complementary make him an ideal fit for Dartmouth,โ€ said Dartmouth Director of Athletics and Recreation Mike Harrity in a news release announcing the hire. 

Klinkradt also had stints at the University of Delaware and James Madison. For the Fightin’ Blue Hens, Klinkradt served as an assistant and interim head coach. 

โ€œThe tradition, academic excellence, and competitive spirit of Dartmouth make this a truly special opportunity. I look forward to building a program that reflects the best of Dartmouth field hockey โ€” disciplined, resilient, and united,โ€ said Klinkradt in the news release. 

He replaces Mark Egner, who had previously coached the program since 2020. Egner had a 20-61 record overall and was 2-33 in conference play. Dartmouth was 4-12 overall this past season and 0-7 in the conference.

Womenโ€™s rugby takes talents to Fiji 

During the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s Tournament that wrapped up on March 28, the Big Green had a solid outing, finishing 2-2-1. 

The Big Green tied Ezers Women’s Club 19-19, picked up wins over Flametree COIO-I-SUVA 33-7 and Marist Rugby Club 24-5. They dropped two battles against the Seahawks, 12-10, and Navy, 25-5. 

Next up for womenโ€™s rugby is the Ivy 7s tournament in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday. 

Baseball drops series to Cornell 

The Big Green dropped two of its three road games against the Big Red over the weekend. 

Cornell started the series off hot on Friday, routing the Big Green 8-1, during a game in which the Big Red amassed 14 hits. 

The Big Red followed that game up with another win in the first game of Saturdayโ€™s doubleheader, albeit by a smaller margin of 4-2. With the game tied at 2-2 in the seventh, Cornell scored two runs to take the lead and eventually the win. 

The Big Green did not go down without a fight, though, responding in the second game of the doubleheader with a 15-0 win. Jack Niswonger had three RBIs in the win, a team high in a game in which Dartmouth had 14 hits and eight different players drove in runs. 

Additionally, for his play during the series, which included seven hits and three RBIs, Henry Murray was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.

Dartmouth is now 6-15 overall and 3-6 in conference play. It travels to Boston College on Wednesday at 3 p.m., then hosts Brown for a doubleheader on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., and another game on Sunday at noon.

Softball swept by Columbia 

After dropping its home opener on Friday, 4-1 against Columbia, Dartmouth fell in both games of Saturdayโ€™s doubleheader. 

In game one, the Lions tallied 19 hits on their way to an 18-6 victory. Marilyn Beauvais was a standout for the Big Green in the loss with three hits and three RBIs. Columbiaโ€™s game one win was followed up with another in game two, 8-0.  

With the losses, the Big Green have dropped five straight and are 5-16 overall and 3-6 in conference play. They host Cornell for a three-game series this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and a game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Menโ€™s lacrosse drops fourth consecutive game

No. 18 Yale came to town on Saturday and put up 18 goals in an 18-7 win to hand the Big Green their fourth straight loss. 

Emmett Paradine, William Stahl, and Thomas Vandenberg each scored twice for Dartmouth in the loss, while Nick Moore added one goal. 

The Big Green are now 4-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play. They travel to Brown on Saturday for a noon battle.

Womenโ€™s lacrosse drops tight contest against Yale

The Big Green put up a fight on Saturday against visiting No. 5-ranked Yale, coming up just short, 11-8. Dartmouth, which trailed by as much as five in the fourth period, chipped away at its deficit but eventually ran out of time. 

Fiona O’Keeffe led the Big Green offensively with four goals. Ryan Hapgood scored twice, while Samantha Bennett and Madeline Egan added one goal each. 

Dartmouth will aim to put a stop to its two-game losing streak on Saturday when it travels to Brown for a matchup at 3:30 p.m. The Big Green are 6-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Sailing competes over the weekend 

The Big Greenโ€™s best finish of the weekend came at the Fowle Trophy in Providence, R.I., in which they placed third with a 14-7 record. 

At the Yale Women’s Team Race in New Haven, Conn., the Big Green finished fourth with a 2-6 record, and they finished seventh with a 4-10 record at the Mystic Team Race in Medford, Mass.

Up next for sailing are the Central 4, Legler Trophy in Medford, Mass., and the Thompson Team Race in New London, Conn., this weekend. 

Sailing athletes recognized as NEISA Open Sailors of the Week

Last week, the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association named members of the Big Green as the Open Sailors of the Week. 

Specifically, Bella Casaretto, Madeline Koelbel, Phoebe Lee, Lilly Baker, Ryan Satterberg, and Chase Decker helped lead Dartmouth to a second-place finish with a 13-2 record at the Marchiando Team Race in Cambridge, Mass., on March 28 and 29. 

Heavyweight rowing goes unbeaten this weekend 

On Saturday, the Big Green took on Georgetown and Hobart in Princeton, N.J. Dartmouth won all four races, posting times of 5:46.3 in the first varsity eight, 5:51 in the second varsity eight, 6:01.4 in the third varsity eight, and 6:47.6 in the varsity four. 

Dartmouth next battles Brown on April 18. 

Womenโ€™s rowing drops races against Brown

In a road matchup against Brown on Saturday, the Big Green dropped all five races to the Bears. Dartmouth posted times of 6:17.8 in the first varsity eight, 6:28.8 in the second varsity eight, 6:33.7 in the third varsity eight, 6:54.2 in the first varsity four, and 7:11.6 in the second varsity four.

Several solid finishes for track and field in Connecticut

At the UConn Dogfight in Storrs, Conn., on Saturday, the Big Green had several standout finishes. 

J’Voughnn Blake won the 800-meter, and Colton McMaster finished third in the hammer throw for the men. Virginia Averyt was third in the women’s 5,000 meters. 

Up next for track and field are the Friar Invite in Providence, R.I., and the South Florida Invite in Tampa, Fla., both on Friday.
