Ascutney, VT – Iverna Margaret Blood, 96, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 16, 2026, at Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity, New Hampshire, with family by her side. Born at home in Windsor, Vermont, on April 29, 1929, she was the beloved daughter of Fred Dow and Florence May Blood and one of seven children.
Affectionately known as “Verna” or “Mamie,” Iverna was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a cherished friend. She devoted her life to her family, finding her greatest joy in time spent with her children-Larry, Rosie, Patti, and Cindy, and the generations that followed. Her family will carry forward her legacy, embodying the love, strength, and unwavering devotion she shared.
Iverna worked for many years at Amherst and Florence Medical Centers as an assistant to Dr. Weeks. Through her commitment and natural caregiving ability, she grew into a nursing role, always willing to help in any way she could. Patients and colleagues alike remember her kindness, infectious smile, and ever-present energy.
She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures-gardening, especially her cherished lily of the valley, reading, knitting, crocheting, quilting, cooking and baking. She embraced the beauty of New England through biking, swimming, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, kayaking, and camping at Lake Champagne in Randolph, Vermont, enjoying these activities well into her 80’s. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and she drew comfort from Psalm 23.
Iverna was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, and her spouses, Wilbur Williams, George Stockwell, and Sheldon Owen. She is survived by her children, the generations that follow, and extended family who will cherish her memory.
A celebration of life will be held on April 29, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 25 in Windsor, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sullivan County Nursing Home or Visiting Nurses.
Her gentle spirit, boundless warmth, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
