CORINTH โ€” Voters on Tuesday rejected, 291 to 149, a proposed change to Corinthโ€™s subdivision bylaws to make them clearer and easier to navigate and to include more provisions to protect โ€œrural character, water quality, wildlife and agricultureโ€ in design plans, according to a summary.

At the polls, voters elected Carl Demrow to the Selectboard over his opponent Brian Kirkpatrick, 234 to 207.

Voters turned out in record numbers, Town Clerk Martha Brough said by phone Thursday. Of the town’s 1,223 registered voters, 446, or nearly 37%, voted. In 2024, for example, 257 cast ballots.

Brough said she suspected the subdivision bylaw proposal, which would have been the town’s first step toward zoning, contributed to the increased participation.

During the floor meeting, voters approved a proposed general fund budget of $614,000, of which $355,000 is to be raised by taxes.

They also approved a proposed highway fund budget of $994,000, of which $808,000 is to be raised by taxes.

They approved raising $82,150 for the highway capital equipment fund. Voters amended the amount downward from the proposed $97,000 to address a clerical error, Brough said.

In an uncontested race, voters elected Tamia Aebi to a three-year term on the Waits River Valley School District Board. Alexis Ruggles won a one-year School Board seat as a write-in candidate.
