Although the Big Green womenโ€™s basketball team started the weekend with a loss, 55-41, at home against Brown on Friday, they closed it out with a significant win.ย 

For the first time since the 2018-2019 season, the Big Green defeated Yale. Dartmouth hosted the Bulldogs on Saturday and came away with a 77-59 victory, which marked the Big Greenโ€™s first win in conference play this season.

Zeynep Ozel had a monstrous performance in the win, leading the Big Green in scoring with 30 points. Ozel is the first Dartmouth player since 2017 to score 30 points, which occurred in quadruple overtime. She is the first player to hit that mark in regulation since 2014. 

Olivia Austin and Cate MacDonald also scored in double figures with 14 points and 12 points, respectively.

After the weekend, the Big Green are now 10-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play. They will next travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on Harvard on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Menโ€™s hockey gets back on track

After losing their last two games, the Big Green got back to their winning ways, defeating Union 4-2 on Friday at Thompson Arena. 

Nikita Nikora led the way offensively for Dartmouth with an empty-net goal and three assists in the matchup. Jack Silverberg, Colin Grable, and Brock Cummings also found the back of the net for the Big Green.

Fridayโ€™s win was followed by another on Saturday when Dartmouth hosted RPI and won 3-1. Hayden Stavroff scored twice in the contest, while Cooper Cleaves added a goal of his own. 

Emmett Croteau, who recorded 15 saves against RPI and 17 against Union, was named the ECACโ€™s goaltender of the week for the third time this season.

The Big Green are now 16-6-1 overall, 10-4-1 in conference play, and remain ranked No. 14 in the nation. Dartmouth will face Harvard on the road on Friday at 7 p.m.

Menโ€™s basketball splits latest matchups

In a road game against Yale on Friday, the Big Green suffered their second straight loss, falling to the Bulldogs, 83-68. 

Jayden Williams was Dartmouthโ€™s leading scorer in the loss with 18 points. Brandon Mitchell-Day added 13 points, while Kareem Thomas had 12 points as the only other Big Green players to get into double figures. 

However, the Big Greenโ€™s losing streak was halted at two as they picked up a win at Brown 77-70 on Saturday. 

Dartmouth had four players score in double figures in the win, including Thomas with 17 points, Connor Amundsen with 16 points, Jackson Munro with 12 points, and Williams with 10 points.

At 10-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play, the Big Green next set their sights on Harvard for a battle at home on Saturday at 5 p.m. 

Womenโ€™s tennis remains unbeaten

The Big Green hosted Boston University at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday and picked up their fourth victory in a row to start the season, winning 5-2. 

Alexandra Orlins, Josephine Lombardi, Peyton Capuano, and Michela Moore had the singles wins, while the duos of Capuano and Moore and Sam Grosjean and Orlins had the doubles wins. 

The Big Green are now 4-0 and begin the ECAC Indoor Championship in Princeton, N.J., on Friday.

Menโ€™s tennisโ€™ undefeated streak rolls on 

The Big Green picked up their fourth and fifth wins on Saturday when they blanked both Merrimack and Boston University 7-0 at the Boss Tennis Center. 

Yujiro Onuma, Calvin Wang, Miles Groom, Malhar Patel, Denny Bao, and Adrian Treacy had singles wins against Merrimack. Henry Ren and Groom and Patel and Wang had the doubles wins. 

Against Boston University, Ren and Groom won in doubles and singles. Treacy, Onuma, Bao, and Wang also had singles wins. 

The Big Green (5-0) hosts Indiana at 1 p.m. and Holy Cross at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Big Green finish second at Dartmouth Carnival

The Big Green skiing program hosted the Dartmouth Carnival on Friday and Saturday and finished in second place.

In the Nordic 7.5K Classic on Friday, Aaron Power (21:50.8) was the Big Greenโ€™s top male finisher in 11th. Ava Thurston (23:45.9) won the women’s race. 

Also on Friday, alpine skiing athletes competed in the giant slalom. Oscar Zimmer (1:56.38) finished second for the men, while Emma Resnick (2:01.20) finished third for the women, as the Big Greenโ€™s top performers.

In Saturdayโ€™s Nordic event, the 15K Freestyle, Cooper Camp led the Big Green men, finishing fifth (39:33.8), and Thurston (45:08.3) placed second for the women.

As for Saturdayโ€™s slalom, Calum Langmuir (1:39.44) finished first for the men, and Zoe Zimmermann (1:44.48) finished first for the women.

The ski team will head to Burlington for the Vermont Carnival that begins on Friday.

Track and field competes in two meets over the weekend

The Big Green competed at the Harvard Invitational and Terrier Classic this past weekend. Highlights include Liam Murray (47.02) improving his school record in the 400-meter and other athletes such as Jada Jones in the 400-meter, Andie Murray in the 800-meter, and more improving their standing in the all-time school ranks.

Track and field will compete at the Riverhawk Invitational in Lowell, Mass., beginning on Friday. 

Two 2020 alums competing in Olympics

Tanguy Nef and AJ Ginnis, both of whom graduated from Dartmouth in 2020, will represent their countries at the Olympics that begin this week in Italy.

This will be Nefโ€™s first Olympics, and he will represent Switzerlandโ€™s ski team. He was a four-time All-American for the Big Green.

It will also be the first Olympics for Ginnis, who is representing Greece. A news release from the college announcing these athletes’ participation in the games refers to Ginnis as โ€œGreece’s top-ranked alpine skier.โ€

Olympians with Dartmouth ties 

In addition to the athletes above, the Big Green has several student-athletes and alumni competing at the games. 

Junior Maryโ€ฏBocock, 2023 graduates AJโ€ฏHurt and Kyleโ€ฏNegomir, along with 2020 graduates Samโ€ฏMorse and Ninaโ€ฏOโ€™Brien, all of whom are alpine skiers, will represent the United States. 

Rosie Brennan, a 2011 graduate; Julia Kern, a 2019 graduate; Lauren Jortberg, a 2020 graduate; and John Steel Hagenbuch, who graduated last year, will represent the United States, while Jasmine Drolet, who also graduated last year, will represent Canada as Nordic skiers. 

Off the slopes, sophomore goaltender Michaela Hesovรก will represent the Czech Republic, and 2016 graduate Laura Stacey will represent Canada in hockey. 

Womenโ€™s hockey losing streak continues

The Big Green hit the road to visit No. 12 Cornell on Friday and were routed, 5-0, for their fifth loss in a row. Jiahui Zhan had 30 saves in the matchup for Dartmouth.

The squadโ€™s sixth loss in a row also came on the road, 3-2, against Colgate. Ella Inglis and Olivia Paidosh found the back of the net for the Big Green in the loss, while Zhan had 36 saves. 

The Big Green are now 4-19-3 overall and 2-13-3 in conference play. They host Princeton on Friday and Quinnipiac on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Womenโ€™s squash drops latest matchups

The Big Green womenโ€™s squash team fell to Yale on the road, 8-1, on Friday and lost 8-1 again on Sunday at home against Trinity. Uma Patnaik had the lone win over Yale, while Callie Worth had the only win against Trinity. 

Dartmouth, which is now 4-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play, hosts Tufts on Sunday at 1 p.m. 

Menโ€™s squash 0-2 in most recent contests

Dartmouthโ€™s menโ€™s squash team lost to Yale on the road 8-1 on Friday and was blanked by Trinity 9-0 at home on Sunday. Callan Venkatesan had the only Big Green win over the weekend. 

The Big Green are now 5-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They host Tufts on Sunday at 1 p.m. 

Womenโ€™s swimming and diving drops matchup

The Big Green fell to Columbia on the road Saturday, 165-135. Carinn Bethea, who won the 200-meter freestyle (1:48.03) and 100-meter freestyle (49.98), along with Izzy Mundee, who won the 1000-meter freestyle (9:56.75) and 500-meter freestyle (4:51.52), were standouts for Dartmouth. 

The Big Green are now 3-6 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Athletes will compete in the Boston Open, which begins on Friday, and the Northeastern Diving Invite, which begins on Saturday.

Menโ€™s swimming and diving also falls to Columbia 

The Big Green were defeated on the road by the Lions on Saturday, 213-86. Jihoon Jung, who won the 200-meter breaststroke (2:00.68), and Jacob Turner, who won the 400-meter individual medley (3:54.09), performed well for Dartmouth.

The Big Green are now 1-7 overall and 0-7 in conference play. The athletes will now turn their focus to the Boston Open, which begins on Friday, and the Northeastern Diving Invite, which begins on Saturday.

Power earns another pre-season honor

Senior Thomas Power, a member of the Big Greenโ€™s menโ€™s lacrosse team, received All-American status once again this time as a Nike Lacrosse honorable mention from Inside Lacrosse. 

Recently, Power was named an honorable mention pre-season All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. He had 54 points last season with 26 goals and 28 assists. 

Football assistants retire

Don Dobes, the Big Greenโ€™s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, along with defensive line coach Duane Brooks, are walking away from the sidelines and heading into retirement. 

“Today we celebrate two remarkable coaches whose commitment, integrity, and passion have helped shape the very heart of our football program,” said Athletic Director Mike Harrity, in a news release announcing the retirements. 

Big Green Head Coach Sammy McCorkle said Dobes, who had been with the Big Green since 2010, โ€œhas been one of the most important ingredients to this program’s success,โ€ in the same release. 

As for Brooks, who came to Dartmouth in 2014, McCorkle said, โ€œIt is quite difficult to encapsulate the entirety of Duane’s contributions in one quote.โ€ Adding, โ€œHis coaching tenacity, passion for the game, and support for his players’ development both on and off the field have been critical to our success.โ€

Konstantin Spรถrk earns Academic All-American honors

Senior offensive lineman Konstantin Spรถrk was named a second-team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators. Spรถrk, who is an engineering major, had a 3.74 GPA.
